Board of Registrars Meeting of September 15, 1999
10:00 a.m. - Room 105, Town Office Building
Present: Mary Abegg, Chairman; Connie Foster; Luanna Devenis, Donna Hooper, Clerk
Chairman Mary Abegg called the meeting to order.
Mary reviewed scheduling of upcoming elections, with 4 elections scheduled in the year 2000,
and the need for recruiting additional election workers. Elections are scheduled for March 7
Presidential Primary, March 13 Town Election, September 19 State Primary, and November 7
Presidential.
Plans for handicapped poll accessibility training by the Office of the Secretary of State were

explained by Donna. Connie Foster will plan to attend the September 27 training in Lexington.
Members of the Enablement Committee and representatives from the Human Services
Department are also expected to attend. Also discussed were options for relocating polls, Cary
Hall availability, and Poll set-up for the new optical scan system. The March 1999 election poll
layout should be individually fine-tuned for each precinct and input sought from Wardens and
Clerks. Building room configurations should be confirmed during on-site visits for handicapped
accessibility surveying (including electrical outlets, doors, etc.) sometime during the week of
November 15-19.
Voter registration dates and outreach possibilities were discussed. Mary will contact George
McCormack, LHS History Department, to pursue possibilities for linking with class curriculum
and activities.
Members discussed the evolving role of the Registrars and activities around which the Registrars
should concentrate efforts.
