HomeMy WebLinkAbout2011-04-14-TCC-min Minutes Town Celebrations Committee April 14, 2011 Town Office Building, Room 111 Members present Suzie Barry, Dick Crogan, Linda Dixon, Mary Gillespie, Jo-Anne Granger, Paul Jenkins, Sondra Lucente, Julie Miller, Wayne Miller, Sandy Podgorski, Jim Shaw, Dave Taylor and Bob Tracey Members not present Bill Mix, Henry Murphy, Charlie Price and John Rossi Business  Suzie Barry called the meeting to order at 7:40 pm.  The April 7, 2011 minutes were accepted. Patriots’ Day, Monday, April 18, 2011 Updates Morning Parade  Doug Lucente introduced Emily Wilson and Derrick Winton (Youth Commission) to the committee at this evening’s meeting. Both will act as masters of ceremony.  The Governor’s Proclamation will not be read.  William P. Fitzgerald Appreciation Award has been moved to Memorial Day.  The suggestion was made to find out how the Dan Fenn and Minuteman Cane Awards became part of the morning ceremony on the green. Dave Taylor Dave still continues to distribute event information. Mary Gillespie  Some of the banner bearers who signed on to participate have dropped out.  Jerry Michelson will send out another request for additional participants. Dick Crogan  Again, no LHS students have volunteered.  Dick suggested we think about inviting the Pure Fusion Drum and Bugle Corps to march in next year’s parade. Jim Shaw  Reminisants’ application has been received.  Jim delivered the latest Colonial Times with the event schedule to local hotels.  Suzie will find out for Jim if John Penney Band’s ride is all set.  There are signs for Coach Tighe’s car. Sandy Podgorski Boy scout representatives have not yet responded regarding their participation in the morning ceremony. Sondra Lucente  Sondra has contacted the float judges.  Clarke and Diamond Middle Schools will enter a joint float.  Paul Jenkins will deliver the float award signs to Sondra. Bob Tracey  Tony Barrie Marching Band is all set to participate.  Bob and Wayne Miller will provide a sign in table and take up the stakes once the parade is under way. Paul Jenkins  Paul has 21 banners, possibly 22.  Steve Flynn will provide music at the reviewing stand again this year.  Dick Crogan and Dave Taylor will deliver the banners to east Lexington on Saturday.  Dave will collect banners at the end of the parade. Suzie Barry  The day’s roster will be e-mailed to the committee.  Committee members have new name tags and blue vests this year.  Stakes are going in on Sunday at 2 pm.  The after-parade meeting will address any changes and improvements we need to make, as well as brainstorming opportunities for the future.  First Regiment of Foot’s application arrived very late, after the budget had been spent, with an expensive fee request; the committee voted not to accept this year.  Waltham American Legion Band is planning to march; the application is still outstanding.  A motion was made and accepted to include the following groups: LexFun (parents and children); Liberty Ride (application received, no fee); and, Middlesex County Sheriff with honor guard and one cruiser. Miscellaneous  Bob Tracey will talk with Stop and Shop about water.  Move the “All Bands Play Here” sign to Massachusetts Avenue and Harrington Road.  Linda Dixon will count participants in each of the parade groups.  Eric Michelson will announce the afternoon parade.  Brookline Bank will send two people to help with buses and two to help with banners.  Instead of going to LHS, both Mt. Pleasant High School and DePere High School Bands will be dropped off in east Lexington by their own touring buses.  Lt. Gen. Ted Bowlds and Col. Stacy Yike from Hanscom AFB, the British Consul General and USS Constitution Commander will attend the reenactment.  Discussion ensued about ticketing, etc. The committee will revisit the ticket issue at a later meeting. Memorial Day, May 30, 2011  Sandy Podgorski will not be able to act as chief marshal on Memorial Day. Her daughter is due that day to deliver baby number two (in Connecticut). She is “on call” to take care of the older child. The committee will instead invite to march and honor all Lexington residents who volunteer at the VA Hospital.  Linda is still searching for a clergyperson.  Suzie wants to include The Lt. Col. John W. Hudson Club of Lexington, MA in this year’s ceremony and will make a motion to include the group in subsequent years. Suzie will contact Sam Doran.  Paul Jenkins has a suggestion for this year’s William P. Fitzgerald Award. Meeting was adjourned at 9:40 pm. Respectfully submitted, Sandy Podgorski
