HomeMy WebLinkAbout2010-12-02-TCC-min Minutes Town Celebrations Committee December 2, 2010 Ellen Stone Room, Cary Hall Members present Suzie Barry, Dick Crogan, Linda Dixon, Jo-Anne Granger, Paul Jenkins, Sondra Lucente, Julie Miller, Wayne Miller, Bill Mix, Henry Murphy, Sandy Podgorski, Charlie Price, Jim Shaw, Dave Taylor and Bob Tracey Members not present Mary Gillespie and John Rossi Business  Suzie Barry called the meeting to order at 7:30 pm.  The December 18, 2010 minutes were approved with one change. Patriots’ Day, Monday, April 18, 2011 Reenactment A Commission on Disabilities meeting is scheduled to discuss improving accessibility at the reenactment. In addition, the Commission would like to secure a designated viewing place. Suzie will be in touch with Bill Mix, Henry Liu, Paul O’Shaughnessy, Charlie Cole and the Police Department. Youth parade Suzie will contact the Youth Commission regarding chief marshal and master of ceremony participants. Afternoon  Applications are trickling in.  Suzie will send an e-mail after Christmas to invitees who have not yet returned their applications, reminding them that the deadline is January 3, 2011.  Aiden Evelyn, Lexington Police Honor Guard, would like to ask other police honor guards to participate.  The float meeting is scheduled for 7:30 pm Thursday, January 6, 2011, room #207, Town Office Building. Suzie will write to the Chamber of Commerce to ask if they will again sponsor the contest and offer a prize.  Linda Dixon received a response from the National Guard regarding their participation in the parade. With the number of guardsmen and women deploying, they can make no commitment at this time.  Tufts ROTC is interested in participating but meeting our deadline is problematic. Linda will ask them for a letter expressing interest so that we can hold a place. There will be no obligation if they cannot come.  Suzie asked about the John Penney Band’s participation. We can consider asking them to participate if their cost is reasonable. Memorial Day, Monday, May 30, 2011  Linda presented the committee with Col Cheryl Poppe’s biography. Col Popp said that she would be honored to be guest speaker.  Suzie made a motion to ask Col Poppe to speak on Memorial Day 2011. The motion was unanimously accepted.  Jim Shaw suggested we invite recently retired LHS football coach William Tighe to act as chief marshal. Lexington 300, 2013 th th  LHS is holding a logo contest for the 300.  There is a February meeting for event stakeholders. Suzie will let us know when the date is set. Meeting adjourned at 8:25 pm.
