HomeMy WebLinkAbout2011-03-03-TCC-min Minutes Town Celebrations Committee March 3, 2011 Town Office Building, Room 111 Members present Suzie Barry, Dick Crogan, Linda Dixon, Mary Gillespie, Julie Miller, Wayne Miller, Bill Mix, Henry Murphy, Sandy Podgorski, Charlie Price, Dave Taylor and Bob Tracey Members not present John Rossi and Jim Shaw Jo-Anne Granger, Paul Jenkins, Sondra Lucente, Business  Suzie Barry called the meeting to order at 5:30 pm.  The January 13, 2011 minutes were accepted. Patriots’ Day, Monday, April 18, 2011 Updates Bob Tracey  The VA Hospital will send its van for participation in the afternoon parade.  Middlesex County Sheriff’s office will let us know if they will send a group to march.  Bob will call Tony Barrie to ask about his band’s participation.  A motion was made and accepted to include Boss Clowns in the afternoon parade.  A motion was made and accepted to include the American Legion Band and its trolley in the afternoon parade. Linda Dixon  We do not have a clergyperson yet for the morning ceremony on the green.  Tufts ROTC will not march in the afternoon parade.  A National Guard marching unit will participate. Dick Crogan  Regarding LHS student volunteers, Dick is waiting to hear from Lee Ann Swanson.  He will also send Dave Loutman, assistant principal, a letter as well requesting student volunteers and will let both Dave and Lee Ann know the deadline date for responding. Suzie Barry  The bus request has been submitted.  DePere High School, DePere WI, would like to march.  We are awaiting the USS Constitution color guard’s application. Miscellaneous  Bill Mix reports that he is making progress in putting together the Spirit of ’76.  Mary Gillespie has the banner bearer letter ready for distribution to the schools.  Regarding media, Suzie Barry will forward the relevant information of the day’s events to Dave Taylor for circulation.  A motion was made and accepted to include Arts Span, Lexington Senior Citizens, Lexington Education Foundation, Field and Garden Club and the Lexington Historical Society (with fire engine and pumper) in the afternoon parade, at no cost.  A motion was made and accepted to include His Majesty’s Fourth Regiment of Foot and Middlesex County 4H Fife and Drum in the afternoon parade.  Suzie Barry will submit to the Town Manager’s office for Town Meeting why our committee needs to expand from nine to twelve members.  Linda Dixon would like to see the Veterans’ Day essay contest winners march in the parade under the aegis of the LEF (Lexington Education Foundation).  The afternoon parade invitation is at the printer. Suzie asked if there might be others not already on the invitation list we could include. th  Afternoon parade acceptance letters will be mailed on either Friday, March 4 or th Monday, March 7.  Committee members discussed Minuteman Cane and White Tricorn Hat nominees.
