Meeting Minutes
December 4, 2009
Present: Joseph O'Leary, Leona Martin, Hank Manz, Melissa Buttaro, Bob Kent, Linda
Vine, Fuang -Ping Huang, Emily Lavine, Deborah Jackson, Gerald McLeod, Albert
Zabin, Richard Capron, and Puran Dang
Meeting at Selectmen Meeting Room was called to order at 8:OOAM
Al expressed concern about the lack of progress and suggests the following agenda for
the next meeting:
• Review of ideas
• Assign responsibilities
• Weekly progress reports
Bob updates on inviting Senator Kerry to our event and reiterates that Representative Jay
Kaufman suggest that we approach Kerry before we set a date for the event to ensure
Kerry's availability. Linda will check the availability of Carry Hall to coordinate with
Kerry's schedule.
Connie Rawson, director at Carry Library recommended Satchel: The Life and Times of
an American Legend By Larry Tye for Lexington Read.
The committee viewed the following films during the meeting:
Struggle for the Green, On Memorial Day Weekend of 1971, the Vietnam Veterans
Against the War (VVAW), led by John Kerry was denied their request by the Lexington
Board of Selectmen to camp at the Battle Green. The veterans decided to stay at the
Green as planed and many Lexington residents show up in support of the veterans. As a
result, 458 veterans and townspeople were arrested the next morning.
Unfinished Symphony, shows various events and VVAW protest that lead to the protest
and arrest in Lexington's Battle Green in May of 1971.
The next meeting of the HRC is scheduled for Friday, January 8 2010 at 8:00 a.m. in
Selectmen Meeting Room.
The meeting adjourned at 10:00 am.
