Meeting Minutes
April 17, 2009
Present: Richard Capron, Joseph O'Leary, Hank Manz, Bob Kent, Linda Vine, Deborah
Jackson, Fuang -Ping Huang, and Albert Zabin.
Guests: Melissa Buttaro, Guidance Counsel, LHS.
Meeting at the Selectman's Meeting Room was called to order at 8:OOAM
Joe reported two people protested the Day of Silence at LHS on April 15 They held
signs peacefully protesting the event and were ignored by the public.
On Sunday, April 19 there will be another group holding a rally on the Battle Green.
The group feels that the government has denied citizens their rights through over
regulation and unlawful taxation. They also have ties to other groups that have issues
with US immigration policies. A small group of counter protesters indicated they will be
on the green, too. The Police Dept anticipates no problems and the only impact is that
visitors may believe these people are some how tie to the Town of Lexington.
The case against the defendant on the Muzzy Street assault was dismissed without
prejudges due to violation of Rule 36. The rule is to grant the defense a speedy trial.
However, the defense attorney was able to use it to have the case dismissed. The
committee is concerned about the victim and will check with Victim /Witness Advocate to
see what has been provided to support the victim.
The committee feels that the young generations lack of appreciation on minority
struggles, and will look into program development for school and library to raise
awareness among young people.
Board of Selectmen has suggested the committee to form a Citizen Advisory Board for
specific functions within HRC.
Melissa Buttaro expressed her desire to become an HRC member. Hank will present the
notion at the selectmen's meeting.
The next committee meeting is scheduled on May 15, 2009 at 8:00 AM.
The meeting adjourned at 9:00 am.
