Meeting Minutes
September 24, 2010
Present: Albert Zabin, Bob Kent, Linda Vine, Fuang -Ping Huang, Puran Dang, Richard
Capron, Deb Jackson, Leona Martin, Melissa Buttaro, Hank Manz, Jessie Steigerwald,
Emily Lavine, Gerald McLeod, and guest Art Katz and Eugenia Callahan.
Meeting was called to order at 8 am.
Committee discussed the anti - bigotry statement draft (regarding the anti - Muslim
sentiment recently in the US) to Lexington Board of Selectman. Due to various opinions
regarding the draft, it was determined to have members e -mail their comments to Deb
who volunteer for the task. Deb and Al will work on the final draft to the board of
selectman by next Wednesday in time for their meeting on next Thursday.
Program up -date:
Bob: spoke to Senator Kerry's staff and was told that she'd be able to have a better idea
by Nov. 1s if Kerry is able to attend the event. Bob is meeting Jay Kauffman.
Deb: Craig Hall is editing the two films, and suggested to have a panel discussion dress
rehearsal when the editing is done, and to invite Kate Bell as the facilitator.
Melissa: the event has been approved for community service credit by LHS which will
encourage students' participation. Has spoke to at Music and History dept regarding
ways they can help the program. Melissa will help in promoting the event utilizing
Lexington list server, Facebook, etc.
Linda: contacted various groups /medias to promote the program, will reach out to
Council on Aging, and suggested a reception after the program.
Art suggested a different perspective of the event and to invite people who were young at
the time of the event to participate in the program.
Police Dept reported a woman living near the Bedford line (who does not wish to be
identified) rec'd handwritten note that contained hate literature. The note did not threaten
any person or persons but appeared to be something that was copied from some of the
hate literature we see from time to time distributed by pro - Palestinian groups.
School reports: Both middle schools presented "Rachael's Challenge ". A film in
memory of Rachael Scott a victim at the Columbine High school shooting, and to
promote kindness and compassion. Both Clarke and Diamond have started the chain of
kindness. Boston Gay Men's Chorus will perform on Oct. 7 th to raise fund for PSA.
Next meeting is scheduled on Friday, October 15 at 8:00 a.m. in Room 207.
The meeting adjourned at 9:00 am.
