HomeMy WebLinkAbout2010-08-19-LHRC-mink� O w APNIL I9'" Lexington Human Rights Committee Minutes August 19, 2010 8:00 a.m. Room 207— Town Hall Office Building Members in Attendance: Melissa Buttaro, Al Zabin, Bob Kent, Joe O'Leary, Deb Jackson, Puran Dang, Linda Vine Special Guest: Michael McLean, Lexington Police Department The chair called the meeting to order at 8:05 a.m. Bob Kent reported on his follow -up work with Senator Kerry's office. He left the message that he hoped very much that the Senator could attend, but if not a brief statement that we can use at the meeting would be appreciated. Al Zabin had invited Elise Lemire to participate but she is away until the end of August. Al will follow -up on his invitation. Captain O'Leary introduced Lt. Michael McLean as the newly appointed Civil Rights Officer for the Police Department. Joe discussion the change in personnel and that he has assumed new duties and would probably be coming off the HRC after the fall workshop. Joe also discussed the desire of the department to recruit an Asian speaking officer but to date this has been difficult. Deb Jackson reported on her work arranging the panelist for the November 21 program, with the following persons under consideration by the full committee: • Masha Traber — possible facilitator • Former Police Chief James Corr • Former Selectmen Bob Cataldo • Captain O'Leary • Arthur Katz • Elise Lemire Linda Vine will work with Hank Manz on P.R. opportunities. Melissa Buttaro will work with the history department and music departments to consider ways they could participate. She also offered photos for display that might work well for P.R. purposes; she will coordinate with Linda Vine. Meeting adjourned at 8:50 a.m. Next Meeting 9/24 at 8:00 a.m. in Room 207 Town Hall
