Suzie Barry called the meeting to order at 7:35 pm.
Patriots’ Day, Monday, April 18, 2011
Assignments and updates
Dave Taylor will oversee media for the day.
Sondra Lucente offered to help Mary Gillespie prepare the banner bearer letter,
publicity, etc.
Sondra Lucente volunteered to address the invitation envelopes.
Suzie Barry will ask Bill Mix to find Spirit of ’76 participants.
Two thirds of the applications mailed have been returned.
Bob Tracey said he would contact the VA Hospital about including the mini train in the
afternoon parade and call Boss Clowns and Waltham American Legion for an update on
their applications.
Sondra Lucente e-mailed the float information to the Chamber of Commerce.
Sondra Lucente said that Hallamore and Wells Fargo will participate. Compass for Kids
may come as well.
Linda Dixon reported that National Guard participation is in the works; in addition, Tufts,
MIT, Boston University and Harvard ROTC hope to put a representation together.
Suzie Barry called Hanscom AFB to see if the honor guard would participate again this
year along with the Air Force Band.
The planning meeting with all departments, including Lex Media, but not the Fire
Department, was held last week. There are no major changes for Patriots’ Day.
Dick Crogan contacted Lee Ann Swanson at LHS to ask for six to twelve student
volunteers for the day. (Students will earn community service hours.) The committee
discussed where the students might be assigned, and suggestions were made as to
other groups we might contact for volunteers.
Sondra Lucente will call Mahoney’s Garden Center as to their participation.
The Munroe Center for the Arts is interested in participating.
Linda Dixon recommended wider use of the committee website for next year,
including online registrations. Suzie will talk with Candy McLaughlin, Assistant to the
Town Manager, about possibilities for expanding the capabilities of the committee
website.
Suzie Barry will contact Candy about posting the banner bearer form this year for online sign up.
Since the Dana Home has closed, a suggestion was made to move the “All Bands Play
Here” sign from the Dana Home site to a point forward, closer to St. Brigid’s.
Paul Jenkins asked if money is available in the budget to accommodate including trucks
in the afternoon parade again this year.
Motions were made and unanimously accepted to
accept the applications received from the no cost groups as participants.

Additional discussion
Suzie Barry and Bob Tracey will contact the groups requesting more money.
We will accept the Mt. Pleasant Area High School Band, Mt. Pleasant, PA, application to
march and see about paying them.
Jim Shaw reports that the Reminisents is definitely interested in participating. The John
Penney Band is also interested, but the group needs a driver. Paul Jenkins will see if he
can arrange for this.
The LHS Band application was submitted without a fee request. The committee
discussed increasing last year’s amount a little more. Suzie Barry will speak with Jeff
Leonard.
