HomeMy WebLinkAbout2011-01-10-Hastings-min Site Council Meeting 1/10/11 Members Present: Louise Lipsitz, principal Mary Erdman, parent Sion Harris, parent Heidi Pasternak, parent Janet Lane, community member Dana Steiner, teacher Nancy Salitsky, nurse Katie Boudreau, teacher Nancy Campbell, assistant principal  Thanks to those who went to the site council training (Mary, Heidi, Sion, Nancy Campbell)  A few people (Stu, Louise, Mary, Heidi) represented Hastings at Dr. Ash’s presentation of the FY12 budget Discussion of Site Council Training  Online Ethics Training to be done  Members were “shell shocked” with how much responsibility Site Council Members actually have  Site Council members are subject to not collecting gifts of value  Frequency of meetings Our site council seems to be posting meetings on time o Other school site councils have not even met yet o  Parents have a lot of input in hiring  We will be adding a June meeting  Understanding the school budget is important  Site councils should take tours through the facility Know what updates are needed o  Performance objectives  PTA presidents can come in as a guest speaker Site council should be connected to other links in the school o  “Parent liaisons” should assess other parents perspectives What needs to be addressed o How things are going with the plans we are implementing o **Parent surveys, focus groups (parent coffee, night meeting), random o phone surveys Bulling Potential Topic: School Climate specifically with Can use Room Parent to help with the outreach on getting survey’s completed Sion:  Stress Initiative: Race to No Where – movie – internal pressures of how well they do in schools  Mindfulness Training: Own personal skills in managing stress Potentially being offered as a PD o st Feb 1 offering on Mindfulness for parents, affects of stress on the youth’s o brain  To what degree do parents see stress affecting their children? – potential question for survey  Less attention on elementary school because they have Open Circle and Middle/High School are not as developed with this topic To do:  Louise will look in her files for past surveys Hopefully we can get it out there in early March o Use surveys to direct Focus Groups o  We need to identify 3 priorities for Survey Prosocial – bullying o Advocacy – how to work out the problems (**Potential training??) o Here are a few topics/problems – yes/no, would you like more information o about this? Communication avenues o  Parents want teachers/administrators to let them know what specific feedback they want from parents
