Veteran’s Day Recap
Our Grand Marshal will be Steve Newell, U.S. Navy veteran and retired Lexington police officer. Suzie is
awaiting confirmation.
Mary Gillespie has distributed essay contest information to all Lexington middle and high schools with a
deadline of November 1. Elementary school students will provide handmade cards to veterans. The
Lexington Minuteman and Colonial Times will run stories about the essay contest.
Linda Dixon will confirm Rabbi Carey Brown’s (Temple Isaiah) attendance to offer the invocation and
benediction. Sandy Podgorski has arranged a donation of four dozen carnations from Wilson Farms.
Patriot’s Day Pre-Planning
Linda Dixon will write to the Interfaith Council to recruit volunteer clergy for next year.
Suzie invited suggestions for Chief Marshal for the afternoon parade.
The group felt there was no need to develop a particular theme for the parade.
There is a definite need to increase outreach. Advertising will be expanded, and certain groups will be
specifically invited to create a float and to participate in the parade. If there is a good response, the
committee will hold a special meeting in January to determine which floats will be selected.

committee is developing a series of events that will occur between September 2012 and September 2013,
including a logo contest, a time capsule, and Lexington Symphony and Pops Chorus concert with a special
th
piece commissioned for the occasion. All Patriots Day 2013 activities will probably have a 300 theme.
The meeting adjourned at 8:40 p.m.
