HomeMy WebLinkAbout2010-10-14-TCC-min Minutes Town Celebrations Committee October 14, 2010 Ellen Stone Room, Cary Hall Members present Suzie Barry, Chair; Dick Crogan, Linda Dixon, Mary Gillespie, Joanne Granger, Julie Miller, Bill Mix, Henry Murphy, and Bob Tracey Members not present Paul Jenkins, Sondra Lucente, Sandy Podgorski, Charlie Price, John Rossi, Jim Shaw, and Dave Taylor Business  The meeting was called to order by Suzie Barry at 7:35 p.m.  Minutes of May 26, 2010 and September 16, 2010 were approved  The results of committee election for 2011 are as follows: Chair, Suzie Barry; Vice Chair, Bob Tracey; Secretary, Sandy Podgorski o Veteran’s Day Recap  Our Grand Marshal will be Steve Newell, U.S. Navy veteran and retired Lexington police officer. Suzie is awaiting confirmation.  Mary Gillespie has distributed essay contest information to all Lexington middle and high schools with a deadline of November 1. Elementary school students will provide handmade cards to veterans. The Lexington Minuteman and Colonial Times will run stories about the essay contest.  Linda Dixon will confirm Rabbi Carey Brown’s (Temple Isaiah) attendance to offer the invocation and benediction. Sandy Podgorski has arranged a donation of four dozen carnations from Wilson Farms. Patriot’s Day Pre-Planning  Linda Dixon will write to the Interfaith Council to recruit volunteer clergy for next year.  Suzie invited suggestions for Chief Marshal for the afternoon parade.  The group felt there was no need to develop a particular theme for the parade.  There is a definite need to increase outreach. Advertising will be expanded, and certain groups will be specifically invited to create a float and to participate in the parade. If there is a good response, the committee will hold a special meeting in January to determine which floats will be selected. th 300 Anniversary Celebration th  A 300 Anniversary Committee has been established with a website, email address, and P.O. Box. The committee is developing a series of events that will occur between September 2012 and September 2013, including a logo contest, a time capsule, and Lexington Symphony and Pops Chorus concert with a special th piece commissioned for the occasion. All Patriots Day 2013 activities will probably have a 300 theme. The meeting adjourned at 8:40 p.m. Submitted by Linda Dixon
