SITE-BASED SCHOOL COUNCIL
May 5, 2010 MEETING MINUTES
Attendees:
Peg Mongiello, Co-Chair; Matt Schnall, Co-Chair; Deborah Strod, Cindy Starks, Judi Robinson,
Rick Comeau, Ed Dube. Janice Whitmore joined the meeting in progress.
This meeting consisted of a working group who had volunteered to make final revisions to the
parent survey and to adapt the parent survey topics for a student survey. Ms. Mongiello noted
that another working group, consisting of herself, Ms. Starks, Ms. Robinson, Mr. Comeau, Ms.
Corbett, Ms. Redmon, Mr. Kluchman and Ms. Whittemore had met on April 30, 2010 to revise
the survey presented at the council’s meeting on April 12, 2010. The document from which the
group worked at the current meeting was based on the revisions agreed upon at the April 30
meeting.
The group reviewed the parent survey, revised a number of questions, and approved the survey
as so revised. It was agreed that Mr. Schnall would transfer the survey to the Surveymonkey
platform, with the goal of having the survey go live by Friday, May 7.
The group then discussed the topics that would be appropriate for a student survey. The general
approach was to cover the same subject areas on which parents were surveyed, but to adapt the
questions to be appropriate for students. It was agreed that Ms. Strod would implement the
agreed changes and circulate them to the group over the weekend, with a goal of having the
student survey approved at the council’s next meeting on Monday, May 10.
With respect to a teacher survey, the teacher representatives commented that teachers were
already being surveyed by the school administration on a number of topics. Given that fact and
the pressures of end of the year activities and grading, the teacher representatives believed that
teachers would not have time for vigorous participation in a School Council survey. The group
agreed to postpone surveying teachers until next year’s surveys.
