HomeMy WebLinkAbout2010-06-24-LEX300-min Lexington 300th Anniversary Celebration Committee Meeting Minutes June 24, 2010 Attending: Susan Rockwell, Donna Hooper, Cindy Savage, Richard Kollen Absent: Suzie Barry, Town Celebrations Committee The Lexington 300th Anniversary Celebration Committee met at 11 00 a.m., Thursday, June 24, 2010 in Room 111, Town Office Building., 1625 Massachusetts Ave Candidates for appointment also attending: Van Seasholes, Denise Dube Points Discussed. Sue Rockwell introduced Committee member candidates. Van Seasholes, Denise Dube Draft letter to be sent to participating community groups was discussed. Interest in seeking corporate membership representation and representation from the Arts community was discussed. Sue will investigate potential membership from the Council for the Arts. Donna will investigate a possible member from SHIRE Community letter-the letter content was discussed. Denise Dube agreed to provide an updated draft for comment. Denise questioned the possibility of producing some type of booklet for the 300th Anniversary Dick Kollen further discussion re turning points in Lexington's history and thoughts on what to produce, resources available to use, themes, etc. The importance of involving LexMedia, middle school students, and possibility of creating a web time-line similar to that produced by the Massachusetts Historical Society were discussed. Dick explained the Lexington Education Foundation has provided a grant to the Lexington elementary schools for an initiative in celebrating the 300th anniversary Denise suggested a possible retrospective performance that would draw in characters representing significant people/events of the era. Dick Kollen will provide an introductory video/power-point for the September 21St community meeting. The weekend of March 29-30-31, 2013 may be known as `Incorporation Weekend' Official events of the 2012-2013 celebration should likely require going through a sanctioning process- and have some connection to Lexington's history This process should be identified for sharing at the September 21St community meeting. Logo - It was suggested a`competition'for the Lexington High School to create the 300th Anniversary Logo -which might include in some way the town's logo(s) Sean Hagan, of the Lexington High School Arts Department was suggested as a contact to include with the planning. Donna suggested the Committee review the records of the Bicentennial Celebration (1975) in the archives and will gather for the next meeting of the Committee Donna will pursue with Alan Wrigley the progress in application for the 501 [c] [3] Nonprofit status. Lexington 300th Anniversary Celebration Committee FUNDING Funding needs for entire celebration, as well as for FY2012 request (July 2011-June 2012) were discussed. The bicentennial records will be reviewed for financial content in the hopes they will provide some insight into potential needs. The Other Lexington- A reminder that we would like to involve the other Lexington's named after Lexington, MA in the 300th celebration. The way to involve needs further discussion.
