Hudson Club, Lexington, MA Business  Suzie Barry called the meeting to order at 7:20 pm.  The April 14, 2010 minutes were approved and accepted.  A motion was made, approved and accepted to not recreate the minutes of the April 8, 2009 meeting, due to the notes being lost. th Lexington 300 Anniversary th  Suzie recapped the Lexington 300 April 23, 2010 meeting for committee members. The next meeting is scheduled on Monday, May 17, 2010 at 10:30 am.  Celebrations will be year-long, possibly beginning September 2012 through September 2013, with a significant event occurring on March 31, 2013.  The anniversary team will be working to establish itself (i.e. incorporate, create a webpage, etc.).  A small sum of money has been set aside within the Town Celebrations Committee budget for the celebrations.  Group meetings will begin in the fall. Patriots’ Day 2010 General The committee received numerous compliments on the day. Morning ceremonies It was noticed that a small number of boy scouts participated this year. Afternoon parade  Committee members discussed the day and indicated where change and improvement are needed.  Town departments are meeting on Thursday, May 29, 2010 to discuss the parade.  A suggestion was made to provide committee members with some type of identifying clothing (vest, jacket, etc.).  Suzie made two motions. (1) She will make permanent name tags for the committee members, and (2) she will look into the purchase of some sort of clothing item to identify the committee members on event days. Both motions were accepted and approved.  It was suggested that something be set up (a table or canopy) to indicate the banner return and bearer checkout area at the end of the parade.  This year’s float winners were Civic category  First place – Lexington League of Women Voters with Wilson Farm  Second place – Lexington-Antony, France Sister City/Tourism Committee  Third place – United States Submarine Veterans Youth category  First place – Lexington Youth Commission  Second place – No entry  Third place – No entry Commercial category  First place – Wagon Wheel Nursery and farm stand  Second place – Mahoney’s Garden Center  Third place – No entry Memorial Day  Suzie has two suggestions for chief marshal and will call them.  Chaplain (Major) Lance Hoggatt from Hanscom Air Force Base will be the guest clergy.  State Senator Ken Donnelly is this year’s guest speaker.  We still need approval from the Selectmen to hold the parade. In the event of rain, we do have permission to move indoors to Cary Hall.  Suzie will order the bus for the ride to Westview Cemetery.  Bob Tracey will order the wreaths for the memorials.  A request has been made to the DPW for set up of the podium, speaker, chairs, traffic horses and bags for parking meters.  The Lexington Fire Department is a new stop this year; dedication of the memorial plaque will not occur until June.  Guests Michael DaRu and Sam Doran gave committee members a brief history of their club (The Lt. Col. John W. Hudson Club of Lexington, MA) and suggested a few additions to the ceremony. The Lt. Col. John W. Hudson Club of Lexington, MA will join the scouts in the laying of a wreath at the civil war memorial, followed by the reading of the Decoration of the GAR Plot statement by a club member. New business  Town Celebrations Committee membership. Suzie talked with the committee about membership renewals. Linda Dixon received an application to join.  Summer projects. The reviewing stand is not in good condition. We need to either have it repaired, if possible, or replace it with a new one.  Suzie will talk with the Minutemen about designating a handicap area for viewing the reenactment. (The reviewing stand area for handicap seating at the afternoon parade worked very well.)  Sandy Podgorski will compile of list of past parade marshals and themes. Meeting adjourned at 9 pm.
