HomeMy WebLinkAbout2010-04-14-BOH-min Lexington Board of Health Meeting, April 14, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. Town Hall, Room G-15 1625 Massachusetts Avenue, Lexington, MA Attendees: Wendy Heiger-Bernays, Chair; Burt Perlmutter; David S. Geller, Sharon MacKenzie Health Department Attendees: Gerard F. Cody, Health Director; Ann Belliveau, Health Clerk Heiger-Bernays called to order at 7:00 p.m. The Board reviewed the minutes of March 10, 2010. Perlmutter motioned to accept the minutes with corrections. MacKenzie seconded. All approved. Community Health Report – The Board reviewed the Community Health Report and all follow-ups had been done in a timely manner. Cody mentioned that recently Neylon and an intern, Namrata Singh, conducted a Diabetes Workshop at the Senior Center for 40 participants. Environmental Health Report New Estabishments – Plan Review Margarita’s - Cody introduced Rick Lowe, General Manager of Margarita’s to the Board. Lowe advised the Board that Margarita’s is very serious about food handling and safety. He also mentioned that all managers must be serve-safe certified. After a discussion, Perlmutter motioned to grant an annual permit to operate a food establishment to Margarita’s at 438 Bedford St. MacKenzie seconded. All approved. Ride Studio Café – Jennifer Park, co-owner of Ride Studio Café appeared before the Board as a new food establishment. Park explained the floor plan of the establishment and advised the Board that pastries and sandwiches will be prepared at Diesel Café in Somerville and brought to Ride Studio Café daily. After a discussion, Perlmutter motioned to grant an annual food establishment permit to Ride Studio Café at 1720 Massachusetts Avenue. MacKenzie seconded. All approved. Patriot’s Day - Cody advised the Board that a food consultant from Mass Food Safety was hired to contact all of the food vendors at the Patriot’s Day Parade to make sure they were aware of all food protocols. The Board reviewed the food inspection report. Cody advised the Board that the owner of Formosa Taipei, Steve Cao will at the next Board meeting for an administrative hearing. Housing Updates 16 Estabrook Road – Elizabeth Weiss appeared before the Board to provide an update regarding the order letter dated March 29, 1010 and to provide a basis as to why this home should not be declared unfit for human habitation and a condemnation order issued. Ms. Weiss advised the Board that Service Master has been contracted to clean up the basement but this morning she had an additional 9 inches of water in the basement. Cody asked Ms. Weiss for the name of the Service Master Manager. Ms. Weiss also mentioned that a new house was built next door to her and the neighbors drain is in the ground aiming to Ms. Weiss’s home. Cody advised the Board that Dennis Meehan, Superintendent of Water & Sewer, was unable to attend the meeting this evening but will be asked to attend the next meeting. Ms. Weiss will update Cody of the progress being made. 12 Calvin Street - Cody advised that 14 cats have been captured and will continue with the process. The house has been condemned. Ms. Johnston will be working with Aftermath to get the house in a sanitary manner and then she can have it boarded up. Ms. Johnston has been staying at the Quality Inn temporarily but she is working with Charlotte Rodgers to find permanent housing. Environmental Health Report Cody advised the Board that John Moriarty of Marrett Rd. would like to have a slaughter house but he must first obtain a permit from the Commonwealth of Mass, Food Protection Bureau as a wholesaler. The Board would need to hold a public hearing and then give the feedback from the hearing to the State before the final determination is made. Cody stated that once Mr. Moriarty submits a plan review, the Health Dept. has 30 days to review the plan. We will then need to post and advertise the public hearing. A decision letter will then be submitted to the Mass Food Protection Bureau. Mr. Moriarty also will need to meet with Conservation for approval. Cody advised the Board of upcoming Regional 4a tabletops. Also, our EDS plan will be revised so it will be a regional plan to meet all the CDC requirements. The tabletop will be held on June 9, 2010. Cody updated the Board concerning PCB retesting to take place. MacKenzie motioned to adjourn. Geller seconded. All approved.
