The BIG news this month is that the Muzzey Senior Center now has
fully accessible automatic doors! Operated with a push of a button, the new
hardware makes getting in and out of the Senior Center doors a breeze. The
Town of Lexington will be installing the same system to the main entrance
doors, making the lobby area fully accessible, as well.
If you would like to make a difference in the future for Lexington's older
adults, there are a couple of events coming up that you should attend. On
June 8, plan to join us for the Transportation Forum. This is your chance
to learn more about transportation options available in the Town, as well as
make your opinions known about what is needed for the future. On June 3
the Council on Aging Board meets at 3:30 p.m., and on June 10, the Friends
of the Council on Aging ( "The Friends ") will hold their Annual Meeting at
3:30 p.m. The meetings are open to everyone, and offer an opportunity for
you to get involved!
Finally, all of us would like to congratulate our friend and long time vol-
unteer, Bob Edwards, who was the recipient of the Minuteman Cane Award
this year!

The American Foundation for the Blind lists some useful tips for people with low vision:
1. Keep rooms well lit! Good overall lighting is a must for safety.
2. Use task lighting to make everyday activities easier.
3. Use night lights in bedrooms, hallways, bathrooms and kitchen to make it easier to navigate in the dark.
4. Make stairways safer by placing a brightly colored strip of tape along the edge of each step.
5. Make door frames and light switches easier to see by painting them a color that contrasts with the
walls.
6. Place plates on placemats that are a contrasting color.
7. Use pill organizers with raised markings or labels to prevent serious medication mishaps.
8. Eliminate clutter and dispose of unnecessary items, put things away as soon as you have finished using
them and always return them to the same place.
