Town Celebrations Committee
March 24, 2010

Sam Doran, member of the Sons of Union Veterans; Maria Loconte, Friends of Willard’s Woods;
David Navia, Boy Scout Troop #119 (observing) and his mother, Susan Navia.
Business
Suzie Barry called the meeting to order at 7:20 pm.
Patriots’ Day 2010
Suzie gave a brief, general discussion of the parade preparation to our guests.
Spirit of 76
Bill Mix is working on getting the fife and drummer for both the morning and afternoon
parades. Suzie reported Sam Estabrooks of Boy Scout Troop 160 will be the Flag Bearer
again.
Pre-parade meeting
Lexington Minuteman Henry Liu will attend our March 31, 2010 meeting for a briefing
on the reenactment.
Float application update
The following groups were accepted to participate in the afternoon parade:
Rainbow Girls
o
Dana Home (will need a car)
o
Korean War veterans (awaiting their application)
o
Maria Loconte, Friends of Willard’s Woods, asked if the group could be part of
the afternoon parade. A motion was made and accepted to include the group by
four yes votes and one abstention.
Vehicles update
A motion was made and accepted to include the following vehicles for no fee in
the afternoon parade:
1946 Arlmont fuel truck
o
Five James Flett vehicles
o
1975 Mac truck
o
Still waiting an update on military vehicles
We need a convertible to accommodate Chief Marshal Marge Battin
Antony Committee
Regarding the French exchange group’s participation in the afternoon parade, the
committee received the following requests from the Antony Committee:
If small French flags could be handed to parade spectators prior to the arrival of
the parade (unanimously opposed)
Could a golf cart be available and kept close to the marching group for potential
needs (unanimously opposed)
Could the Liberty Ride trolley ride behind their float to provide transportation
should the marching guests need to use it (unanimously accepted)
Memorial Day
Sam Doran, member of the Sons of Union Veterans, presented the committee with
several proposals to the Munroe cemetery ceremonies on behalf of the civil war
deceased. The question was raised about one of Sam’s requests to roll call the names of
the civil war dead when the ceremony is designated to remember the deceased of all
wars. A motion was made to table additional discussion until the April 28, 2010 meeting.
Parade order
The committee made a first review of the parade order.
Meeting adjourned at 9:15 pm.
