Shawn Newell passed out spreadsheets with the most recent quarter’s by building BTU consumption data as well as quarterly data back to FY2008. It was noted that the fiscal year began on July-1 with the recent quarter figures entered into the spreadsheet just before the meeting. Shawn Newell reviewed the spreadsheet building by building and offered insight into the factors influencing BTU consumption. During the discussion Shawn detailed numerous efforts undertaken by his department and by building managers to correct control systems and other infrastructure. Overall there has been continuous, strong progress in decreasing BTU consumption. A number of efforts underway and still in planning are expected to continue to yield further significant decreases. Two factors which had material influence were variation in degree days year to year and quarter to quarter, and change of use of school and municipal buildings as programs have varied over time. It was suggested by some members of the committee that a parallel spreadsheet be maintained with quarterly BTU consumption weighted by degree days. Another suggestion was that there be an overlay created which could be used to convey in public communications any progress in decreasing carbon footprint. Reports and Articles Beth Zonis is continuing to author and publish articles describing energy efficiency projects in the town of Lexington, highlighting contributions from the DPW, DPF and ECC. Status of Ad Hoc Climate Action Committee It was noted that the ad hoc Climate Action Committee has been recommended to be disbanded by its chair. In discussion it was noted that the charter for that committee was distinct from our Energy Conservation Committee and there was no recommendation to fold parts of the two together.
