The Lexington Senior Center will be represented in the Patriot's Day Parade - join friends to ride a LexPress Bus or walk the parade route. Be sure to check out the Young at Heart Chorus as they perform patriotic songs at the end of the parade on the Battle Green! Charlotte Rodgers and the Human Services Department Staff Safe Driving for Seniors Thursday, April 9, 2009 from 9:45 a.m. to 12 noon at Cary Memorial Library - Meeting Room on Lower Level A forum sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Lexington will look at medical, social and legal implications for older drivers, their families and care- givers. Speakers include Dr. Elizabeth Dugan, Associate Professor of Geriatric Medicine at University of Massachusetts and author of The Driving Dilemma, Alzheimer specialist, Charlie Zoeller, Dr. Bryan Reimer, researcher at MIT's AgeLab, Char- lotte Rodgers, Director of Lexington Human Services Department, and Christina Demambro, Family Detective, Lexington Police Department. The Supportive Day Program provides a supervised setting for these seniors who would otherwise by isolated and alone during the day. The income guidelines for assistance are: household of one $27,876 and household of two $36,454. Appoint- ments can be scheduled for new clients by calling the Human Services Department at (781) 861 -0194. Fuel assistance appointments can be made on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate walk -ins, so please be sure to schedule an appointment. Special accommodations are available to accommodate persons who are homebound or have other extenuating circumstances. Water /Sewer Discount Program It is the policy of the Town of Lexington to outreach and identify residents who are in need of financial assistance to pay their water and sewer bills. In order to qualify for relief under the Water and Sewer Discount Program, a resident must be a property owner and meet the financial guidelines (for Fuel Assistance) under the Federal Low - Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). Money Management Program: Assistance with Monthly Bill Paying Coping with bills and the mechanics of monthly bill paying can be overwhelming. FY09 Senior Service Program The Senior Service Program asks participating taxpay- ers to work for the municipality in exchange for a reduction in their tax bill. Positions vary, the hours are flexible and are available at different sites includ- ing: the Schools, Cary Memorial Library, Town Hall, the Senior Center, Police Department, etc. Applications are available through the Senior Ser- vices Department, and will be accepted for review on a rolling basis. ® ®® Applicants must be 60 years of age or older and own property in Lexington that serves as their principle residence. Gross income (including Social Security income) must not exceed $46,300 for single taxpayer or $ 52,950 for a couple. The maximum credit a single taxpayer may earn is $935.00 including all withholdings per fiscal year. Two people per household may participate in the program, earning a maximum of $1,190.00.
