New Business:
Christian and Janet Hart described their collaborative vision in creating
Lexington Open Studio slated for Saturday May 2 and Sunday, May 3, 2009.
Lexington affiliated artists and artisans are called to participate, and
encouraged to open their homes/studios for the community at large to view
their art. Additional display space will be available, including galleries at
the Sundial Bookstore, Arts and Crafts Society and Munroe Center. LCA
members are encouraged to spread the word, and volunteer for a variety of
tasks leading up to the date. Several ideas were discussed for attracting
artists or display space.
Lexington Arts and Crafts society described other fundraising art
shows that were very successful this past year, especially during the
holidays.
We looked at the Directory of Artistic Resources from 1987 available
in the library.
Victoria described her experience Belmont Cultural Council and the
relationship with the Belmont Art Gallery. Artists would receive grant
support to display at the gallery. Receptions with grantees were
held.
Grant amounts are generally larger, with the intention to attract a higher
caliber artist. Belmont has eliminated PASS grants. Belmont also does an
annual comparison of the kinds of grants neighboring towns receive from the
MCC.
LCA grants all in order. No new business.
Barbara’s award: Leadership Circle Award. A call for food donations.
Contact Jon: food committee!. The discussion of who to invite: Victoria
suggested all recipients of LCA grants form Barbara’s tenure on the council
be included. And invitations will go out as an Evite. Selectmen, Town
Mgr., etc. Publicity—a press release will appear in Minuteman. Look into
hiring a licensed bartender. Bill will check this out—he’s on the liquor
committee. A suggestion to use funds from the Patron’s fund to cover these
costs. April 2: 6-8pm.
