Town Celebrations Committee
October 28, 2009

Suzie Barry called the meeting to order at 7:20 pm.

Minutes of the October 21, 2009 meeting were read and approved.
?
Suzie met with Chamber of Commerce members, Larry Smith and Mary Jo Bohart.

1.Regarding Lexington’s 300 Anniversary celebration -- It was decided that better
communication is needed between the Town Celebrations Committee and Chamber
of Commerce.
2.Patriots’ Day parade. Float judging – the Chamber of Commerce will provide the
judges and cash prizes. Banner sponsorship – (1) the plan is to have the solicitation
letter ready for mailing by the first full week in January 2010, (2) the Chamber of
Commerce would like to be publicly acknowledged for their sponsorship of the float
prizes (there are three categories: youth, civic and commercial), and (3) the
Chamber of Commerce asked if they could have a banner in the parade mentioning
their sponsorship.
Veterans’ Day 2009

Committee members read the essay submissions and the following essays were chosen
as winners:
1.Carter William Yee, elementary school entry
2.John Caples, middle school entry
3.Jessica Hylek and Olivia Burger, high school entries
?
Mary Gillespie reported that two classes, one from two of the elementary schools,
would like to design thank you cards for the veterans. She has prepared a letter for the
parents giving their children permission to attend the ceremony on the green and to
distribute the cards.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:10 pm.
