Town Celebrations Committee
September 16, 2009

Business
Suzie Barry called the meeting to order at 7:15 pm.

Elections were held. Suzie Barry and Bob Tracey were nominated for the
??
offices of committee chair and vice chair, respectively; both were
unanimously elected. Jo-Anne Granger and Sandy Podgorski will share
the office of secretary.
Peter Kelley is this year’s selectmen liaison to the Town Celebrations
??
Committee.
The evening’s agenda, 2009-2010 committee meeting dates and
??
committee member roster were distributed.
Minutes of the May 20, 2009 meeting were not available for distribution
??
and approval.
Suzie Barry asked that anyone who cannot attend a meeting should let
??
her know ahead of time.
Jerry Michelson was asked to provide a unique domain for the
??
committee’s website.
Veterans’ Day, Wednesday, November 11, 2009
Town Celebrations Committee was given permission to use the school
??
administration parking lot to assemble and battle green for the ceremony.
We are waiting to hear from the Facilities Department for permission to use
of Cary Hall in case of rain.
Invitations to our guests need to be prepared.
??
Clergy guest at the ceremony will be Shirley Holdman of the Christian
??
Science Reading Room.
Several names were suggested as chief marshal honorees.
??
Mary Gillespie would again like to involve the elementary, middle and
??
high school students in either Veterans’ or Memorial Day ceremonies by
asking them to submit essays on the subject. It has been done in the past
and is considered a nice community activity. The committee decided to
have the students participate in the Veterans’ Day ceremony. Mary will
organize and oversee the project.
Patriots’ Day Events, Monday, April 19, 2010
In order to streamline the invitation process, a new letter will be written
??
and sent to our marching unit, float and truck/vehicle participants. Sandy
Podgorski will prepare mailing labels for the letters for the September 30,
2009 meeting.
Norwich University contacted Suzie Barry requesting reentry into the
??
parade.
The committee discussed the selection of a chief marshal for the
??
afternoon parade.
Sunrise Youth parade group representations will be invited to the Town
??
Celebration Committee’s October 7, 2009 meeting to (1) hear the
announcement of Lexington’s 300 Anniversary Celebration in 2013, and
th
(2) discuss the possibility of having just an afternoon parade. It has been
suggested that the ceremonial portion of the morning parade be held in
Cary Hall and have the youth parade groups join the afternoon event.
Committee members discussed the pros and cons of both the present
arrangement and new proposal.
Lexington’s 300 Anniversary Celebration 2013

Plans are being made to celebrate Lexington’s 300 anniversary of
??
th
incorporation. The anniversary celebration team will be a subcommittee
of the Town Celebration Committee.
A preliminary list of subcommittee participants is forming.
??
