Lexington Tree Committee Minutes for May 14, 2009

1. Jim Wood was appointed as scribe.
2. The minutes of April 16, 2009 were approved.
3. Tree Wardens Agenda items-Dave Pinsonneault
3.1 By-Law Report-639 sites visited, 506 sites closed, 794 trees to be removed,
587 trees have been removed, 1927 trees to be planted, 1201 trees have been
planted, total diameter-inches removed 1104, resulting in $ 11,040 in fees
collected since 8/04/08 Tree Nursery-Town water is on, all trees have
irrigation drip line installed. A listing of what trees were planted and in which
row/hole was handed out.
3.2 John Livsey reported on the following planned action for the Butterfield and
Old Reservoir Dams. Dam stabilization will be accomplished by driving steel
sheet piling into the dam and then capping with concrete. This method will
result in the maximum number of trees to be preserved on the dam. This
summer all of the scrub trees will be removed. Next 1-2 years all required
trees and stumps will be removed to allow equipment to operate on the dam
tops.
3.3 Tree Inventory Update-Interns Fred MacDonald (a Clark senior) and Yianni
Laskaris (a Northeastern junior) will be working through June 30, 2009. More
volunteers would be helpful for tree inventory and for locating future planting
areas for maturing trees in the Nursery.
3.4 Belfry Hill-All trees and shrubs scheduled to be planted have been planted.
Belfry Hill workday is Saturday May 16, 2009 and volunteers are needed.
Tasks are the pulling of Garlic Mustard, cleaning up trash, and removing as
many invasive species as time allows.
3.5 Planting locations for Matt Foti donated trees. Anne Senning developed a
planting location plan, which will be sent to Matt.
3.6 Recommended tree list for the Tree Manual-No action has been taken on
revising the existing tree list. When it is completed we will print the number
of Tree Manuals that the available $1200.00 will allow.
3.7 Battle Green Master Plan Meeting-John Frey and as many other Tree
Committee members that can make it will attend the meeting.

3.8 Lexington received the Tree City USA for the 20 year at the ceremony in
Sturbridge MA on 5/08/09.
4. Friends of Trees-Gerry, Jewel, John will work on obtaining volunteers for the
Belfry Hill workday.
5. Web site-Karen will update the site with the Winter Moth information.
