Town of Lexington Appropriation Committee
March 25, 2009
Place and time: Ellen Stone Room, Cary Memorial Building, 6:30 PM
Members present: Alan Levine (Chair), John Bartenstein (Vice Chair), Richard Eurich,
Pam Hoffman, Susan McLeish (Secretary), Eric Michelson, Glenn Parker, Mike
Kennealy, Rob Addelson (ex officio, non - voting)
Also present: Deborah Brown (Town Moderator)
The meeting was called to order at 6:40 PM.
1. Appropriation Committee Report. A short discussion regarding the timing
of the presentation of the Appropriation Committee report on the budget transpired and it
was concluded that the report would be given to the Moderator to file when the oral
report is made on March 30. The report has been placed on the table and will be made
available electronically tomorrow, Thursday, March 26, 2009.
2. Articles. A short discussion was regarding upcoming Town meeting dates and
Articles to be addressed was held. Deborah Brown mentioned that the Moderator will
propose a split for consideration of Article 4 with respect to the line item for health
insurance and that it is likely that a date certain for that discussion will be set (Article 43
will be addressed at that same time). Discussion of Article 4 will commence on Monday,
March 30 and the plan is to split the article for items requiring a 2/3 vote — line 1100 and
the transportation stabilization fund.
3. Appropriation Committee Report - School Department Budget. A brief
discussion regarding the number of students living at Avalon Bay attending Lexington
Public Schools versus the estimated number was held. The just published Appropriation
Committee report suggests that the number of actual students is much greater than
originally estimated. It was concluded that we should review prior reports /obtain more
information to better understand the situation.
4. Article 7. The committee voted, 8 -0, in favor of indefinitely postponing
Article 7.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:12 PM.
Respectfully submitted,
Susan McLeish
