Tree Warden (via email) and DPW Operations Updates
University of Vermont has been given the green light to start work on Tree Canopy survey, and
work will also begin on the last section of the Tree Inventory. Marc stated that the DPW does
not circulate proposals to committees, but we will see final reports.
John Frey Memorial
John told several people, including his widow Wilma and Anne Senning, before his death that he
would like several red oaks planted in Tower Park in his memory. Jim Wood will coordinate
with Chris and with George Gagliardi of the Bicycle Advisory Group to come up with a plan for
planting, a marker and a ceremony. The committee unanimously approved spending $1,000
from the Tree Fund to support these plantings, with additional funds to be raised by others.
Make Lex Green
Annika Johnson of the LHS club Make Lex Green proposed naming trees in the center to reaise
funds for their club. This is not reasonable for a number of reasons (streetscape project,
jurisdiction); Pat Moyer will contact her to discuss alternatives such as naming trees at LHS.
Public Tree Planting Event
Mark Conner to attend next small meeting with Chris and Marc to discuss in more detail
Tree Management Manual
Gerry sent the John Frey dedication page to Wilma Frey; Pat to proofread printed draft.
Town Meeting
Articles 32, 33 and 34 scheduled for Wednesday, April 14.
Public Education
Charlie Wyman asked if committee members are interested in working with Lexington Living
Landscapes on public education for more sustainable landscapes. They offer virtual programs,
printed materials, and a web site. Mark, Marty, Pat and Nancy expressed interest.
Tree Bylaw Enforcement
Nancy to write reports detailing concerns about bylaw enforcement and fee collections, asking
for response from Chris and DPW.
Respectfully submitted,
Nancy Sofen
