HomeMy WebLinkAbout2021-03-04-GCC-min Greenways Corridor Committee (GCC) Meeting Notes 4 March 2021 Remote Meeting via Zoom Conferencing Tool Members Present Keith Ohmart (Chair) Eileen Entin Peggy Enders Alex Dohan Bob Hausslein Susan Kenyon Mike Tabaczynski Mal Crawford Other Attendees Mark Sandeen (Select Board Liaison) Francesca Pfrommer (Recreation Committee Liaison) Charles Hornig (Planning Board Liaison) Stephen Perkins (New GCC member candidate) The meeting was called to order at 4:02 PM by the Chair. • Approval of Meeting Notes for the 4 February 2021 Meeting of the Committee All eight Committee members present voted in favor of approving the Meeting Notes. • Committee Membership Don Grant has resigned from the GCC in order to spend more time on his Lexington Conservation Stewards work activities. Stephen Perkins has been recruited to fill the open position and his application will be reviewed by the Select Board in mid-March. • Volunteer Drivers for Town Vehicles As Select Board appointees, members of the GCC are allowed to drive Town vehicles. Conservation Dept. Conservation Coordinator Amber Carr is looking to expand the list of volunteer Town vehicle drivers for conservation work projects. Please contact Amber for more information if you are interested in this volunteer activity. • Recreation and Conservation Priority Planning Task Force The Task Force met on 24 February 2021 with GCC member Alex Dohan representing the committee. The Task Force will be setting up a template for members to use in identifying possible projects to work on and determining priorities. Rev. - 14 March 2021 1 • Recreation Dept. Spring Walks Bob Hausslein will be leading walks in Town in the April to May time frame. He is looking for volunteer assistant leaders to act as sweeps for the walks. • Liberty Ridge Trail Connector (Jefferson Drive) Project GCC Chair Keith Ohmart attended a recent meeting of the Wright Farm Advisory Subcommittee. The Subcommittee will support the use of an existing tread way on the Farm property for an ACROSS Lexington trail until the Wright Farm planning is completed and a permanent trail alignment is chosen. The Jefferson Drive housing developer has sought permission from the Town of Burlington Select Board to build the section of trail in the development that will run to the Land Locked Forest. The Friends of the Land Locked Forest will include the use of ACROSS signage in the Forest as part of their signage proposal that will be presented to the Town of Burlington Select Board. • ACROSS Lexington Wayfinding Signage GCC member Mike Tabaczynski is preparing a prototype sign to use for getting a cost estimate from a local sign vendor. • 2021 Project Improvement Request Budget GCC Chair Keith Ohmart will send a list of upcoming GCC projects to the Assistant Town Manager for Development Carol Kowalski to consider for inclusion in the budget. • Concord Avenue -Brookhaven Loop Project The GCC is considering the use of a consultant who would be funded with non- Town sources to speed up the development of a management plan for the Concord Avenue Conservation Land. The GCC has proposed a meeting with the heads of the Conservation Commission and Conservation Department to determine if they would agree with this approach prior to the 17 May 2021 meeting of the Conservation Commission. If an agreement can be reached more details on the funding and the consultant would be presented at the May meeting. • ACROSS Lexington History Documents Two local organizations were suggested as possible places for archiving the two documents produced by Larry McCray on the history of the ACROSS Lexington trail Rev. - 14 March 2021 2 network. The organizations were the Cary Memorial Library special Lexington history collection and the Lexington Historical Society. • Ad Hoc Committee for Cultural Tourism The group is applying to the Commonwealth for the designation of Lexington Center as a Cultural District. GCC member Susan Kenyon will attend an informational meeting of the group scheduled for 16 March 2021. • Transportation Advisory Committee Meeting The meeting was attended by GCC Chair Keith Ohmart. Based on discussions held at the meeting he will attempt to expand the committees range of transportation options to include pedestrian access for resources in the Town. • ACROSS Lexington Tenth Anniversary Celebration The sense of the GCC is that the 10th anniversary celebration date should be based on when the first section of trail was opened in 2013. An early Fall date in 2023 was proposed based on having good weather for an outdoor event. Select Board liaison Mark Sandeen suggested a re-union theme with current and former GCC members and volunteer workers walking on their neighborhood ACROSS routes to a meeting location in the Center. • ACROSS Lexington App The updated ACROSS Lexington mobile device app is now live in the Apple Store. This is the last update planned for the app since future replacements are expected to be on WWW (World Wide Web)based platforms. • On-Line Hiking Trail Information Services GCC member Alex Dohan will continue investigating WWW replacements for the current printed paper ACROSS Lexington brochures. Other sources to be contacted are the Recreation Dept. and other towns in the area. • Approval of a Motion to Adjourn All eight Committee members present voted in favor of adjourning the Meeting.
