HomeMy WebLinkAbout2021-04-07-TCC-min Town Celebrations Committee Meeting Minutes April 7,2021 Virtual Meeting Members Present June Baer,Chair;Glen Bassett,Suzanne Caton,Steve Cole,Linda Dixon,Yifang Gong,Vivek Gupta,Mary Hutton,Cerise Jalelian,Gresh Lattimore,Sondra Lucente,Lorain Marquis,Julie Miller,Bill Mix,Sandy Podgorski, Sue Stering Members Not Present Wei Ding,Samita Mandelia,Wayne Miller,Geetha Padaki,Rita Pandey,Ashley Rooney,Sam Zales,Aneesha Karody,John Wu Business: • June convened the meeting at 7:05 pm and read the Town notice regarding the conduct of public virtual meetings. • June introduced two new committee members:Yifang Gong and Vivek Gupta • The committee approved the minutes of March 31,2021. Patriots Day,April 19,2021 Door Decorating Program • Sondra Lucente reported that 22 residents and 4 businesses have registered for the program so far. Entries did not come from all precincts. • Geetha Padaki has created a map showing the locations of all the registrants.The committee discussed whether or not the addresses should be made public and the consensus was to make them public. • The program sub-committee has decided that judging of the decorated doors will be done by the committee,not by members of the Garden Club and LexArt ,- Formatted:Font color:Auto • Steve Cole has put judging packets together. • Yifang Gong suggested that next time the program should be more flexible about what is decorated,not just limit it to doors. • June asked how the winners of the program will be announced.The committee noted that winners will be notified by email and a list of winners will be published in The Colonial Times Magazine. Library Programs • Mary reported that a rehearsal for the Voices of 1775 program took place today. • Mary noted that more publicity about the programs is needed. Sandy Podgorski volunteered to speak with Sean Dugan about getting a mention of the programs into the next Town email newsletter. Miles and Smiles Program • June reported that 40 photos have been posted so far. • The last day to register to participate is April 19,Patriots Day. Prizes will be announced on April 26. Patriots Day Parade • Lorain Marquis noted that all materials for the parade have been handed off to Lex Media and all the narrators for the parade have been recorded. • June reported that the addresses for the door decorating program were handed off to Lex Media and it is expected that someone from Lex Media will go to the addresses and take pictures of the decorations that will be added to the parade video. • It was reported by Tune Baer that the awarding of the 2021 White Tricorn Hat and the ,- Formatted:Font color:Auto Minuteman Cane awards will be recorded and those videos will be added to the parade. • Linda Dixon noted that she is working on a final media article for the Lexington Minuteman paper and wondered if she can mention that the White Tricorn and Minuteman Cane award ceremonies will be shown as part of the virtual parade. The committee suggested that Linda check with Doug Lucente first. • Steve Cole reported that the videos that the Lexington Minutemen planned to make for this Patriots Day were completed and included ceremonies at the Old Burying Ground, the obelisk on the Green with the DAR,the Minuteman monument at Buckman Tavern, and the Parker's Revenge site. The videos will be shown by Lex Media as part of the Patriots Day scheduling which is still being developed by Lex Media. Publicity • Sandy Podgorski reported that several sandwich boards will be displayed in Town from April 9 through Patriots Day. • It was noted that Lex Media is showing photos from previous Patriots Days. Memorial Day 2021 • June reported that she has reached out to Sam Doran to discuss with him doing something about the Civil War for Memorial Day.She noted that this year is the 1601h anniversary of the start of the Civil War. • Activities that have been discussed include a cemetery walk at Munroe Cemetery including putting flags and flowers on Civil War graves. • June noted that the suggestion to hang Memorial Day-themed flags on Mass Ave is not something that will be possible this year and will need more planning if the committee decides to do it next year.
