Business:
• June convened the meeting at 7:07 pm and read the Town notice regarding the conduct of
public virtual meetings.
• The committee approved the minutes of March 24, 2021.
Patriots Day, April 19, 2021
Door Decorating Program
• The committee is encouraging businesses to participate. An email containing the flyer
about the program has been sent to them.
• 29 residents and 6 businesses registered so far. Doors should be finalized by April 5.
Judging will take place between April 7 and 14.
• Sandwich boards have been refreshed with information about the door decorating
program.
• Judging guidelines have been developed.
• Linda Dixon asked if all precincts are represented but as of 3/31 it appeared that only
precincts 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 have registered entrants.
Library Programs
• All 3 programs are listed on the Cary Library web site so people can start signing up to
attend.
• Linda noted that at the John Rees presentation, June will have 1 to 2 minutes at the
beginning to welcome attendees on behalf of the TCC.
Miles and Smiles Program
• Wei Ding reported that 35 submissions have been received for the program. She noted
that people who upload their photos to the site can then share their photos on Facebook.
• Wei noted that she has asked the students who helped develop the web site to encourage
their friends to submit photos to the program.
• The committee briefly discussed the awards to be given to winners of the program but
further discussion was tabled until later.
Patriots Day Parade
• Lorain Marquis noted that everything that Lex Media needs to pull together the virtual
parade has been handed off to them.
Sue Stering asked when Lex Media will need the credits information for included photos.
June will check on this with Lex Media.
Publicity
• Sandy Podgorski reported that a flyer about the Patriots Day activities and programs is
ready to be printed and will be given to Cary Library to be included in the book pick up
bags.
• Sandy noted that the current sandwich board sheets were blown away by the recent high
winds and need to be replaced.
• Articles about Patriots Day activities produced by the committee will continue to be
included in the Lexington Minuteman paper and in the next Colonial Times Magazine.
Memorial Day 2021
• June reported that she and Mary Hutton recently had a meeting to discuss using
information about local Civil War veterans. The information can be included in a
cemetery walk in Monroe cemetery.
• June noted that Town policy requires that only Civil War graves can be decorated for
Memorial Day.
• It is agreed that Memorial Day activities will still probably be only virtual or some hybrid
combination.
New Business:
• Linda noted that the Town Monuments and Memorial committee should be encouraged to
work closely with TCC to encourage a wider appreciation of the Town's historic
monuments and memorials.
• June encouraged the committee to start thinking about organizational changes that might
be made to improve the working of the committee. She would like to see official
descriptions of the committee positions and additional positions added, such as a co-
chairperson, a Treasurer, a Social Media position, etc. Mary Hutton suggested that the
committee should investigate getting a High School intern to participate.
The meeting adjourned at 8:05 p.m. Next meeting: 4/7/21
Respectfully submitted,
Suzanne Caton, Secretary
