HomeMy WebLinkAbout2021-03-24-TCC-min Town Celebrations Committee Meeting Minutes March 24, 2021 Virtual Meeting Members Present June Baer, Chair; Glen Bassett, Suzanne Caton, Linda Dixon, Mary Hutton, Cerise Jalelian, Sondra Lucente, Lorain Marquis, Bill Mix, Geetha Padaki, Sandy Podgorski, Sue Stering, Ashley Rooney, Wei Ding Members Not Present Steve Cole, Karen Gaughan, Gresh Lattimore, Samita Mandelia, Julie Miller, Wayne Miller, Rita Pandey, Sam Zales, Business: • June convened the meeting at 7:06 pm and read the Town notice regarding the conduct of public virtual meetings. • The committee approved the minutes of March 17, 2021. • Mary Hutton reported that the Middlesex County Volunteers are not available for a concert in early September but may be available in late September or October. Patriots Day, April 19, 2021 Door Decorating Program • Sondra reported that the committee is working with the Girl Scouts to arrange for the scouts to assist in judging businesses participating in the program. The Garden Club will also judge businesses. The committee is working on setting up judging criteria. • 12 residents and 2 businesses registered so far. • Sue Stering noted that the registration end date has been moved to April 2 and the committee is planning to create a flyer and distribute it. Sue also requested help in finding another sandwich board to advertise the program. Sondra noted that she may have some sandwich boards in her possession and will check. • Geetha suggested that voting should be on online pictures of doors instead of physically going to locations. • Mary Hutton requested 4 pictures of doors to be included in the virtual parade. Library Programs • No update needed since all 3 programs are set. Miles and Smiles Program • Wei Ding reported that Cary Library will post Smiles photos on their web site. • The committee will create a flyer about the program and distribute. • People participating in the program can post their pictures to the voting site. • Ashley Rooney asked Wei to ask the students who are working on the program registration and voting sites to post their own photos and ask their friends to do so also. • Wei requested that the TCC members send information about the programs to their social networks. • Linda asked that the TCC recognize the students who have worked on the program, possibly with certificates of appreciation or some other action. Patriots Day Parade • Mary reported that videos have been received from all the groups that offered them. • Lorain volunteered to find LexFUN videos from previous parades. • Mary noted that she is working on the script to be used by parade announcers Jim Shaw and Colleen Smith. • The students at Minuteman Tech who are working on the virtual parade will have their segment ready to hand off by March 26. • Linda Dixon asked whether the White Tricorn and Minuteman Cane awards groups were going to submit videos of their award ceremonies to the committee for inclusion in the virtual parade. June responded that their videos will not be included in the parade. Publicity • Sandy Podgorski reported that sandwich boards are up in several locations in the Town center and will remain until next week. A sandwich board will be placed at Cary Library the week of April 5. • The Lexington Recreation newsletter will contain information about Patriots Day activities. • Articles about Patriots Day activities will be included in the Lexington Minuteman paper and in the next Colonial Times Magazine. Memorial Day 2021 • Glen suggested that an option may be to film a walk to all the Memorial Day sites and post it. New Business: • Sondra Lucente passed on to the committee a request from the Lions Club to obtain the list of previous parade sponsors. The committee tabled discussion until June has contacted the Select Board and Town Manager about this request.
