HomeMy WebLinkAbout2021-03-17-TCC-min Town Celebrations Committee Meeting Minutes March 17, 2021 Virtual Meeting Members Present June Baer, Chair; Glen Bassett, Suzanne Caton, Steve Cole, Linda Dixon, Cerise Jalelian, Gresh Lattimore, Sondra Lucente, Samita Mandelia, Lorain Marquis, Julie Miller, Bill Mix, Geetha Padaki, Rita Pandey, Sandy Podgorski, Sue Stering, Ashley Rooney, Wei Ding Members Not Present Karen Gaughan, Mary Hutton, Wayne Miller, Sam Zales, Business: • June convened the meeting at 7:05 pm and read the Town notice regarding the conduct of public virtual meetings. • The committee approved the minutes of March 10, 2021. • June announced that she has received applications from 5 possible volunteers to join the committee. Patriots Day, April 19, 2021 Door Decorating Program • Sondra reported that the committee has finalized the details and a flyer has been designed. • The committee is contacting local groups about the program. • 9 registrations had been received by today from 2 businesses and 7 residents. Library Programs • All 3 programs are set. Miles and Smiles Program • Wei reported that the interactive map is available and requested comments from TCC members. Wei will send the link to the committee. • The registration and voting apps are ready for comments and Wei will send the link to the committee. Online voting will require a Facebook or Twitter account. • One issue still to be resolved is how the prizes will be distributed. • Photos for the Smiles part of the program are starting to be received. Patriots Day Parade • Lorain reported that 11 parade units and 15 civic groups have signed up to do videos for the parade. • Photos of previous parades are being collected. • Lorain noted that the committee is confident that everything related to the parade will be ready for hand-off to Lex Media next week. • June recorded a video of the TCC members waving to be included at the end of the virtual parade video. • The committee approved paying the Colonial Williamsburg Fife & Drum Corps to included a video of the group in our parade video. Publicity • June reported that sandwich boards for the Patriots Day activities have been put up. On 3/19, another sign will go up in front of Cary Hall. • Sandwich boards will go up in front of Cary Library the week of April 5. Also, the Library will include our flyers in book pickup bags. • Announcements about all the activities will go out in the Town newsletter. The committee is working with the Town Web Master to update and keep current the Patriots Day web pages on the Town site, including links to other groups' Patriots Day activities. Memorial Day 2021 • Bill Mix suggested that TCC contact Sam Doran about using the information about Civil War soldiers that Sam has collected in this year's Memorial Day programs. • Linda Dixon noted that a program honoring 5 Civil War veterans buried in Monroe Cemetery was performed in 2013. • Bill also suggested organizing cemetery walks for the holiday. • Ashley Rooney suggested that since a lot of WWII information is available the committee should use it for planning. She also suggested having WWII vets in a car parade. • Linda Dixon suggested taping the dedication of the WWII memorial plaque that will be put up in Cary Hall. • June encouraged the committee to think of activities that will engage the community. • Sue Stering suggested a chalk walk program, where children decorate local sidewalks in chalk appropriately for the holiday. • Sue also suggested creating banners displaying the names, dates, and conflict of Lexington veterans to be hung along Mass Ave. The meeting adjourned at 8:02 p.m. Next meeting: 3/24/21 Respectfully submitted, Suzanne Caton, Secretary
