Diamond asked for and got preliminary approval for: .5 behavioral specialist for TLP, .8 reading teacher, .25 Spanish teacher, .5 math coach, SLP for ILP. The overall budget is very tight for next year, there may be some cuts in other areas. • Surveillance testing will begin at the MS and HS level for students and staff next week with staff then the following week students will begin rotation. Goal is to see if there are people carrying the virus. Batches of 24 will be distributed and sent off for testing. When the test finds a positive in the batch, they will be able to contact the individual. The schools will get overall results to make decisions on remote needs. There is a committee of volunteers who are coordinating this process. Everyone who wants to test will be tested on a rotating basis. All testing is voluntary. • Mid-course adjustments to our schedule were promised when we began the school year, based on feedback from parents. The survey showed that parents felt that the Blue Week did not offer enough classes for students, although it was designed this way intentionally to offer time for students to do asynch work, have a full course offering, and allow for support classes. This past week, the two MS principals presented to SC some ideas for the rest of the year in Blue Week, including additional SEL courses and a new guided study course (content specific). Some other options are being explored, such as full-grade assemblies on Friday afternoons; using volunteers for offerings; and changes to sync sessions which gives students more sessions. All will be opt-in options for students. • Communication was created for staff to address Wednesday's events. Our goal as a staff is to provide a safe learning environment and ensure that there is a level of support for students. Staff Report: • Ms. Wells reports a positive start to the new year. She was pleased with students' self-advocacy and readiness to learn. Member Input: • Question about the math position on team Unity. There has been a math certified teacher substituting each week, along with Dr. Burroughs going in to teach directly. She created all of the lessons and assessments. We will be hiring a new long term substitute, certified math teacher for the remainder of the year. • Regarding surveillance testing: there will be a need to support the testing and encourage participation. Adjournment: 7:46 AM Next Meeting: 1/21/21
