Meeting Minutes (Approved on 1/11/2021)

Pre Meeting Tasks
Review of minutes from November 2, 2020 meeting
Attendance:
Present: Stephen Poltorzycki, Jillian Tung, Shalini Kakar, Hema Gandhi, Doug
Urban, Melissa Talal

I. Call to order
II. Approval of November 2, 2020 meeting minutes: Steve Poltozycki
A. Minutes were approved as amended.
III. Update on finances: Steve Poltorzycki, Hema Gandhi, Doug Urban
A. Team will assess how much of the state funds are unencumbered (not
already earmarked for the grants).
B. Difference between what we have and what is encumbered could
potentially be used to fund new projects.
C. $1500 remains from the FY2020 state fund, which will automatically be
used to fund FY2021 grants.
D. Currently, local fund amounts to $2813; $2952 encumbered by grants
already awarded.
E. Stephen Poltorzycki proposed the following: " LCA will not make any
local funds available for grant awarding FY2021" The motion seconded
by Doug Urban, and approved with unanimous approval of the Council.
IV. Update on Go Out Doors public art project: Steve Poltorzycki
A. Exhibit will be dismantled prior to the next major storm.
B. Steve will ask Cristina Burwell about storing doors at the Munroe Center
over the winter.
C. Council will need to decide when and where they are re-installed in the
spring.

V. Grants update: Jillian Tung
A. Window for submitting grant applications for FY2021 closes December
14. This is a hard deadline.
B. MCC will provide LCA with a panel comprising all grant applications and
supporting documents submitted by applicants for our review.
C. First of 2 grant review meetings will be held on January 11, 2021. The
purpose of this meeting will be to decide which applications will be
funded. The amount of the awards will be decided by LCA at February
1,2021 meeting.
VI. Publicity updates: Shalini Kakar and Jillian Tung
A. Articles
1. Jillian wrote an article for the Minuteman and Colonial Times
entitled"Go Out Doors, Lexington." The piece provides an
overview of the exhibit. Shalini wrote a piece entitled"Internal
Topographies:A Kaleidoscope of the Subconscious." Shalini added
both articles to the LCA website.
B. YouTube
1. Five videos, recorded by Lex Media at the opening of the "Go Out
Doors -Lexington" exhibit were uploaded onto YouTube by Jillian
2. Next step: add YouTube links to website and share with artists.
VII. New business
A. Council will create a list of Lexington's cultural assets to be used as a
resource for community members and other town committees.
B. Possibilities for website expansion were discussed.
C. Discussions ongoing with the Tourism Committee to consider partnership
in seeking Cultural District designation from the MCC.
D. Steve and Jillian attended the Tourism Committee meeting on December 3
with Luis Cotto in attendance.
VIII. Brainstorming and discussion of possible spring project ideas
A. Melissa: remotely-conducted open mike event: easy idea, would take
coordination, different art forms could be presented.
B. Shalini: part II of Doors project and possible public auction of doors
C. Jillian: extension of Doors project, possibly in conjunction with a
community engagement event and small group music performances.
D. Steve: decorating utility boxes; bikeway haiku; poet laureate for town
(would be available to do workshops for poets in town and other events).
