Approval of Minutes: 10/22/2020
Principal's Report:
• New positions in budget: TLP, .25 Spanish teacher, math coach,
• In process of considering updates to auditorium
• As discussed in 2019-2020, ILP 1 &2 programs may come to Diamond
• Potential room future movements for TLP program, depending on budget
• Communication:
• Principal is sifting through feedback from staff survey
• Principal is holding staff listening sessions
• Superintendent has held listening sessions with MS, HS, ES
• Lots of good feedback, but lots of feedback is not actionable
• Holiday travel guidelines:
• Superintendent has shared guidelines about travel
• If families use time for vacation, it is important to know that teachers are not
responsible for preparing lessons during this time.
• Parent/Teacher Conferences are scheduled for Friday, November 20 and Friday,
December 11th. Responsibility for conferences has been handed to staff; most staff are
using invite-only/invite-mostly protocol.
• Standards-Based Grading: lots of communication has been sent out. Little to nothing in
response.
• Started Project-Based Learning Academy: opt-in remote experience for 7th/8th students
who choose to shift at beginning of Trimester 2. PBL academy will maintain world
language, blue-week schedule. However, gold-week, on-team blocks will be structured
differently; time will be `team time' and teachers will have discretion to use as wanted.
• Still some confusion about students & parents both having to opt in
• Some families have asked about bouncing between RLA/PBL academy. Short
answer is `essentially no' —this is disruptive for students.
• Preference given to RLA students
• Hope is to enroll <50 students, split roughly between CL and DI
Staff Report:
• Hallie Wells: Thanks to PTO, we were able to start clubs last week.
• Jen: PTO has been wonderfully generous. Food truck, gift cards, spiritware store.
Member Input:
• Kar Hwee Koh: Parents are interested in PBL, but do not like that it is fully remote.
Communication is done very well, but families are (frankly) overwhelmed.
• Jen: program is remote b/c we are seeing a rise in remote numbers and need to
accommodate it
• Jen: A big hallmark of PBL work is collaboration, and remote environment
encourages this in a way that hybrid can't.
• Dongzi Yu: There is fear about sudden change in modality (remote --* hybrid). Number?
Prepared?
• Kar Hwee Koh: thank you to all staff. Especially appreciate conferences.
