(781) 861-2320, ext. 69103 Principal astephens@lexingtonma.org Lexington High School Site Council February 2020 Meeting Minutes LHS School Site council met on February 10th, 2020 from 6:00-7:30 in Room 505D in the World Language Building Present: Andrew Stephens, Cathy Swan, Karen Griffiths, Sheera Knecht, Sam Off sey, Ling Yang, Kate Vogelzang, Erin Barrett, Angela Chang, Kate Cutler, Suzanne Lau, and Kate Riley Absent: Liz Curtain, Khoi Le, Ed Li, Nancy Shepard Approved the January meeting minutes Updates *Coronavirus -Superintendent is in constant contact with the Lexington Board of Health and the Mass Board of Health and the CDC and is updating the situation on a regular basis or when any new information is available -There are informational links in principal's newsletter -Remember- this is a scary time and we need to be KIND to each other *School Security -There is now a check-in table set up in hallway as you enter LHS through front doors -this improves security and alleviates traffic in front office during busy times -Ms. Duly and Mr. Wise are school monitors- they take turns and the table and walking around the school -we have secured outer perimeter of school by 90% by locking doors -inside quad- each building only has one unlocked door -issue is still main building/main office because it is far from front door *1 Block Absences -If a student misses I Block and it is not excused, and email is sent to parents *March 12 is Professional Development Day (1/2 day for students) -Continuing with DEI work (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) -Developing a framework to share with staff a list of focus questions and resources -PTO is sponsoring the documentary, I Am Not a Racist Am I? -LHS, Clarke and Diamond staff will watch -will be shown to community on March 25th -trying to figure out a way students can see it too Discussion *Curriculum Night -90% of people who attended were first year LHS parents -Math presentation was standing room only -move to different location next year to accommodate more people -Feedback from Thursday morning parent group -not worth going -most of these parents have kids already in LHS -Feedback from Principal's Talk at Curriculum Night -positive *Upcoming 9th Grade Parent Night -Counseling department takes over discussion -information about course selection *Stretch Recommendation Data -Stretch recommendation is when a student is encouraged to take a higher level class -Not much data from 2018-2019 -Stretch Placement Data 2019-2020 -an imperfect but inaugural look at student outcomes -collect data to see how all programs are working -most kids who were recommended to stretch did it after academic advising -they are doing well: Q1 average was an 86 -most kids who were recommended were not on a 504 or IEP plan -should we do something about this? -how would we support these kids? -we will collect data year to year to spot trends -the instinct of the teacher (who usually recommends the stretch) is by and large correct -post course reflection -ask students if they were glad they stretched *Rtl- Response to Intervention -Tier 1 Intervention -core-curriculum and instruction -happens between student and teacher -Tier 2 Intervention Data -what is goal of Rtl? -smaller number of kids -more strategic interventions -intervention of teacher is not enough -examples of intervention -learning center for different departments -peer to peer tutoring -teacher fills out a google form when recommending a student for services and it is sent to any teacher/staff connected with that student, including dean and counselor -Tier 3 Intervention -few students -more intense -student support team oversees the progress of each student and is assigned to a dean who supports the team Meeting adjourned Next Meeting is Monday, March 9th, 2020 - Stacy Glickman from Counseling Department
