Meeting Minutes

Virtual Meeting
Members Present

Business:
• June convened the meeting at 7:06 pm and read the Town notice regarding the conduct of
public virtual meetings.
• The committee approved the minutes of October 14, 2020 as amended.
• June announced that Glen Bassett will join the full committee.
Honoring Veterans Banner:
• Sondra's granddaughter is working on updating the design. Glen Bassett will send Sondra
a picture of the Space Force uniform.
• Doug Lucente is managing the process of getting the banner printed and hung.
• The banner will be hung from November 9 through 13.a
Gift Cards for Veterans:
• Gift cards and cover letter have been delivered to the Select Board office for mailing.
• 123 cards were sent. They have already been activated. The leftover cards will be used
as door prizes at next year's Veterans Breakfast.
Veterans Day Video:
• The Select Board has approved having and videotaping a ceremony on the Green for
Veterans Day. Ceremony will be performed by the Minutemen (see next bullet).
• Steve Cole is organizing the Minutemen to perform a volley, ring the USS Lexington
bell, posting the colors, and raising the flag, all to be videotaped by Lex Media and
included in the Veterans Day video. The Minutemen will be taped on October 28
between 2 and 3 pm on the Green.
• Steve noted that he needs to contact the DPW for assistance with the flag on Oct. 28.
• Bill Mix suggested that Steve add a rain date to the request for permission to use the
Green on Oct. 28.
• Steve reported that he is working with Lex Media on the Dan Fenn memorial piece to be
included in the video. It will include photos from the family.
• Mary reported that she is working with George Gamota to get the WWII plaque added to
the video.
• Mary and June will select photos from previous Veterans Day activities to be included in
the video.
• Sue Stering noted that she has received 14 essays from High School students. The
working group will review them and choose the top 5 essays. The top 2 will be read by
the students on the video.
• Lex Media plans to air the video at 11 am on November 11.
Car Parade for Veterans on November 11, 2020:
• June reported that 26 veterans, 5 classic cars, 5 motorcycles, and the Minuteman float
have been confirmed to participate in the parade.
• Glen has written up instructions for parade participants and for TCC volunteers and has
distributed them for review.
• Sandy noted that use of the St. Brigid's parking lot has been approved. The lot must be
entered from Worthen Rd.
• Cerise confirmed that Boy and Girl Scouts will be available to clean off the car windows.
She asked if the committee wanted scouts to help at the Community Center and the
committee agreed that they would be helpful.
• June reported that a group of Girl Scouts want to stand on the Green during the parade
and salute the veterans. June has submitted the appropriate form to the Select Board for
approval.
• June also noted that she is talking with the William Diamond Fife and Drum Corp about
participation in the parade.
• Lorain will ask Peter Kelley if we can use his convertible in the car parade, and will he
drive it.
Publicity
• Sandy and Sue have been distributing flyers about the parade in Town.
• Cary Library will put the flyer in the book pickup bags.
• Lex Graphics will create posters for sandwich boards. Plan is to put 2 boards by Cary
Library, one by Emory Park, one by Fletcher Park.
• Linda reported that the Lexington Superintendent of Schools has agreed to send a letter
about the parade to all school students and families.
• Linda suggested that TCC request the Clergy Association to ask their members to include
a notice about the parade in their newsletters.
November 2 Program with Cary Library
• June reported that the November program with Cary Library, consisting of interviews
with 3 veterans by Ashley Rooney, will take place on 11/2 at 1 pm..
