HomeMy WebLinkAbout2020-10-14-TCC-min Town Celebrations Committee Meeting Minutes October 14, 2020 Virtual Meeting Members Present June Baer, Chair; Glen Bassett, Suzanne Caton, Linda Dixon, Mary Hutton, Cerise Jalelian, Sondra Lucente, Lorain Marquis, Bill Mix, Geetha Padaki, Rita Pandey, Sandy Podgorski, Sue Stering Members Not Present Kim Coburn, Steve Cole, Wei Ding, Karen Gaughan, Gresh Lattimore, Julie Miller, Wayne Miller, Ashley Rooney, Sam Zales Business: • June convened the meeting at 7:05 pm and read the Town notice regarding the conduct of public virtual meetings. • The committee approved the minutes of October 7, 2020. • June announced that Kim Coburn has resigned from the committee. Honoring Veterans Banner: • Banner has been approved. Doug Lucente is managing the process of getting the banner printed. • The banner will be hung from November 9 through 13.a Gift Cards for Veterans: • June and Kim Katzenbach from the Selectmen's Office will purchase 150 $10 gift cards from Dunkin by 10115, using the Town credit card. • Glen Bassett has written the letter to be sent with the gift cards. June will send out to the committee for review. • There currently are 119 names on the list of recipients. Veterans Day Video: • Mary Hutton reported that the working group had a meeting with Terry of Lex Media today to review the script for the video. • Lex Media will film the Lexington Minutemen ringing the bell of the USS Lexington, posting the colors, and firing a volley. • The reading of their selected essays by High School students will be included in the video. • Also included in the video will be the Lexington High School Band playing the military service songs, a tribute to Dan Fenn being managed by Steve Cole, and the unveiling of a memorial plaque for Lexington's WWII military. • Mary asked the committee to send her any further ideas for inclusion in the video. Car Parade for Veterans on November 11, 2020: • June reported that 21 veterans have been confirmed to participate in the parade. • June noted that several classic cars will be included in the parade. • It has been decided that parade participants should gather in the Community Center parking lot between 12:15 and 12:30, with step-off of the parade at 1 pm. • June checked with the Lexington Police on permitting a motorcycle group of veterans to participate. The Police said they can be allowed to participate. • Linda Dixon noted that she has contacted the School Department to ask them to let students and parents know about the parade. • Sandy Podgorski was asked to contact St. Brigid's to find out if the veterans' cars can pull into their parking lot to allow any market text on their windows to be removed by Boy Scouts. • Linda Dixon noted that we need to let the parade participants know what to do at the end of the parade. Glen volunteered, with assistance from Sandy, to develop the instructions to be given to the participants. • Sandy noted that she has recordings of the service songs that can be used in the parade. • June suggested that pre-packaged doughnuts be distributed to the parade participants when they gather at the Community Center. • A flyer about the parade designed by Sandy was show to the committee and committee members were encouraged to distribute it to their online contacts. • It was suggested that we ask the Cary Library to include copies of the flyer with their book pickup packages. It was also suggested that Town merchants be asked to display the flyer in their windows or on their bulletin boards. • June noted that information about the parade has been given to Sean Dugan and Kathy Santos to be publicized in the Town Information announcements and posted on the Town Events page. November 2 Program with Cary Library • June reported that the November program with Cary Library, consisting of interviews with 3 veterans by Ashley Rooney, will take place on 11/2 at 1 pm..
