Business:
• June convened the meeting at 7:06 pm and read the Town notice regarding the conduct of
public virtual meetings.
• The committee approved the minutes of September23, 2020.
Honoring Veterans Banner:
• June showed a slide of the consensus banner design previously agreed on. The committee
approved the following minor changes to the design:
o Remove Town seal.
o Add a sixth service icon representing our newest branch, the Space force.
o Add a sixth star to reflect this new branch.
o Remove dashes before and after the phrase "Lexington, Massachusetts."
• The Committee approved this banner design, as amended.
• June plans to submit an official request to produce and display the banner on Friday,
October 9. Production and delivery will take one week.
Gift Cards for Veterans:
• June and Kim Katzenbach from the Selectmen's Office will purchase 150 $10 gift cards
from Dunkin by 10115, using the Town credit card.
• The charge will be applied directly to the TCC budget.
• The deadline for veterans to request inclusion in this program is October 15.
• Suzanne will send out the cover letter and gift card to the veterans.
Virtual Veterans Day Program:
• Steve Cole volunteered to work with the Minutemen and Lex Media to videotape the
Minutemen performing a volley on the Green.
• Steve confirmed that he is working on providing a 2 minute tribute to Dan Fenn to be
included in the Veterans Day video.
• The committee discussed whether the Minutemen could be videotaped raising the flag on
the Green, and also posting the colors and ringing the Lexington's bell. Bill Mix will
assist Steve in resolving these issues.
Car Parade for Veterans on November 11, 2020:
0 June reported that 21 veterans have been confirmed to participate in the parade.
• June noted that 8 classic cars will be included in the parade.
• Glen suggested that instructions need to be sent to the parade participants about where to
gather before the parade (Community Center), when to be in place (by 12:30), when the
parade will start (I pm), and to clarify social distancing requirements.
• Sue Stering mentioned that a motorcycle group of veterans want to participate in the
parade. Bill Mix recommended that the committee check with the Lexington Police on
permitting the group to participate.
• Possible routes for the parade were discussed and a route starting at the Community
Center, proceeding down Mass Ave, going around the Green, and ending at St. Brigid's
church was approved by the committee. June noted that the Lexington Police approved
that route.
• Steve Cole offered to include a float created for the Minutemen in the parade. If music is
included in the parade, it can be broadcast from a sound system in the truck pulling the
float. The committee approved the idea of including the float and details will be
determined later.
• The parade working group has suggested that the TCC provide flags to be attached to the
veterans' cars and the committee approved.
• Other suggestions for decorating the veterans' cars were discussed, including crepe
paper, printed posters, and markers to write messages on the cars. The committee thought
that markers were a good idea, as long as enough TCC members were available at the
Community Center gathering place to help decorate the cars. Cerise will investigate if the
Boy Scouts might be able to help clean off the markers at the end of the parade.
• Cerise volunteered to ask the William Diamond Jr. Fife & Drum Corps if they would be
available to play on the Green as the parade passes by.
• June and Ashley noted that we need to generate a lot of publicity about the parade to
make sure enough Town residents come out to watch the parade.
• Linda Dixon volunteered to contact the School Department to ask them to let students
and parents know about the parade.
• Wei Ding will let CAAL members know about the parade.
• Ashley asked Sue Stering to provide pictures of the classic cars to be included in
publicity.
November 2 Program with Cary Library
• June reported that the November program with Cary Library will consist of interviews
with 3 veterans by Ashley Rooney.
• Ashley asked the committee to give her questions to ask the veterans.
The meeting adjourned at 8:20 p.m. Next meetings: 10/14, 10/21, 10/28
Respectfully submitted,
Suzanne Caton, Secretary
