Members Present

Business:
• Lorain convened the meeting at 7:08 pm and read the Town notice regarding the conduct
of public virtual meetings.
• The TCC confirmed their vote to become a collaborative partner with the Human Rights
Committee. The vote was initially taken at the meeting of May 20.
• Lorain asked TCC members to send her any invoices they may have for purchases for the
committee so she can make a final consolidated report to the Select Board for payment.
• The committee approved the minutes of the following previous meetings: 3/11/20,
5/6/20, 5/13/20, and 5/20/20.
• Suzanne Caton was elected to continue as Committee Secretary upon her reappointment
to the TCC sub-committee.
• June Baer was elected to become Committee Chair upon Lorain Marquis stepping down
from the position. Lorain will remain on the committee.
• Suzanne reminded committee members to let her know if they have any TCC celebration
items that need storage.
• Paul reminded the committee that Flag Graphics in Somerville has been making parade
banners for the committee for the last few years.
• Glen Bassett volunteered to help move the existing banners from Paul's home to the new
storage location when we have one.
Memorial Day 2020 (May 25, 2020):
• The committee discussed the Memorial Day 2020 video, which was very successful.
• The committee thanked Mary Hutton for her leadership in developing the video, writing
the script, and directing the final product.
• Linda Dixon suggested that the committee send a letter to the Lexington Minuteman
paper thanking Lex Media for their help in creating the video. Suzanne volunteered to
write the letter.
The committee thanked Lorain for her leadership during her tenure as chair of the committee.
Committee members listed the following accomplishments made during her chairmanship:
Veterans Day Celebrations:
• Collaborating with the High School to encourage students to write essays about what
Veterans Day means to them and publishing their essays in a booklet distributed at the
Veterans Day ceremony, in order to increase participation by Lexington's youth.
• Creating a slide show of Lexington veterans that is shown at the annual Veterans Day
Breakfast.
• Moving the Veterans Day ceremony into Cary Hall and involving more residents in the
ceremony.
• Partnering with IAL to provide coffee at the Veterans Day Breakfast.
• Going "green"to ensure that as much breakfast trash as possible is compostable.
Patriots Day:
• Ordering tickets for the activities locally.
• Changing the Parade sponsorship method.
• Creating a video about Patriots Day in Lexington to be used for publicity purposes.
• Making better use of the Town web site as a way to publicize information about
committee-sponsored activities, and especially weather-related cancellations and time
changes.
• Putting Patriots Day marching unit applications and sponsorship applications online.
• Increasing the number of parade ambassadors (to increase participation by Lexington's
youth) and providing ambassadors T-shirts for their efforts.
Community Involvement:
• Developing community partnerships with IAL, CAAL.
• Initiation of collaboration with Arlington and Concord Town Celebration Committees.
• Partnering with Lexington committees developing activities to remember WWI and
WWII.
• Buying TCC committee jackets.
