The Executive Committee met today to appoint and Acting Director of the library. With the departure of the Director on December 1S and the vacancy in the Assistant Director's position the library needs to have an temporary administrator in place during the search process for a new Director. The recommendation to the Executive Committee was to appoint Connie Rawson, MIS Director for the town. Connie served as Assistant Director for the library from 1996 — 1999 when she left the library to assume the position of MIS Director for the Town. Previously to working in Lexington, Connie was the Assistant Director of the Stoneham Public Library and Head of Reference at Stoneham. wring the discussion it was mentioned that Connie could bring stability to the library during this transition ,driod. As a Senior Manager of the town she is familiar with the budget process, and familiar with the day -to- day operations of the library. Cynthia Johnson, previously the Assistant Director will also be available to assist Connie with the administration of the library. Scott spoke to Linda Vine, Acting Town Manager about Connie's responsibility to MIS and taking on the library. Linda was confident that this was a good move for the Trustees to make. A motion was made and seconded to approve Connie Rawson as the Interim Director of the Cary Memorial Library effective December 2, 2004. The vote was unanimous. Connie then came into the meeting to be introduced to the Trustees and discuss a transition plan for the library. Director's search The Executive Committee discussed the search process for a new Director. The Board of Library Trustees has the authority to appoint the Library Director. There was some discussion about using a search firm to assist in the process similar to the Superintendents search. The committee decided that this was costly and not necessary for this position. The composition of the search committee was discussed and Jay Lucker, former President of the MIT libraries was mentioned as a possible Chair of the search committee. Other possible members: library staff, senior manager of the town, Trustee, member of the Friends, Advisory, and Foundation, and a school librarian. The Director will pull together a package of material for the committee to review on conducting a search for the November 17 so that a preliminary discussion can be held at the ovember 26 Trustees meeting. Motion to adjourn the meeting at 9:10 was made by Helen Cohen and seconded by Richard Pagett.
