Beebe, Mike Tabaczynski

Others attending: Jim Cadenhead, Ross Morrow (DPW)
AGENDA
1. Last meeting notes approved by unanimous vote
2. Bikeway signage improvements
• Ross's source said money is available only for kiosks
• Peggy's source said money is also available for interpretive
signs. We could cancel those and use the money for courtesy signs.
The money is left over from CPA years ago. Phase I was the
existing blue signs. Maybe $39,000.
• Peggy was hoping Michelle Jarvis would design the signs, but she
is too busy. Reached out to Christina Burwell (Monroe Center) for
a referral to a designer.
• We hope to have a preliminary design to take to the Select Board
in April.
3. Liason reports
a. Ross Morrow: bike & ped counter installed and supposedly running.
However, we don't have access to the data yet. Mass DOT reportedly
has the data, and plans to make it publically available on their
website. Would be nice to have a counter near the town center
where there is more traffic. Would like to have a display
installed, but there might be objections to an electronic display
on the bike path- The display in the North End is nice,
unobtrusive.
b- Ross: The town is hiring on engineer to do a circulation study at
the High School to address the traffic jam problem they have. They
are expecting to 8rmm by 488 students next year. Not sure if
promoting more cycling is part of that. The study will happen in
the winter. Matt: it should be top priority to encourage fewer
cors and more walking & cycling. Simply accommodating more cars
always makes the problem worse. Peggy: Michelle Cicculo once
proposed requiring a permit to use cars to drop off students.
Maybe LBAC should write a letter to School Department. Jim: more
cars is not only bad for the environment, it also poses a safety
threat. We have a Lexington chapter for 2QEjSCA, a mountain bike
club, we should reach out to them. Peggy: someone should go to a
School Committee meeting to raise the issue of discouraging cars,
encouraging bikes.
c. Jim: I'm here today for direction about how to get a bike bus
program going. My daughter goes to Hastings. Would like to post a
sign-up sheet for kids interested in riding bikes to school. There
would be pick-up locations. Z would ride with my daughter to the
pick-up locations to form a train.
d. Peggy: the High School needs more bike racks. Peggy has been
saying that for years- Betty: there are many sources of funding in
town that might pay for bike racks. Peggy: the town should pay.
e- New planning director just started Jen 2.
f- Peggy heard from Mark 5andeen that there might be a pilot for m
protected bike lane in the works. Discussion about best place for
that.
