• There was a chess tournament on February 291h that had an attendance of 14, with
many new participants. The new chess teacher Prathiba has shown that she is a great fit
for the chess players of Lexington. There have been many successful classes (Beginner,
Intermediate) and tournaments that have happened under her guidance.
• A new class ran on February 25th with the max of 12 children and was titled "Children's
Dining Etiquette" for children ages 7-11. We will be offering this class in the Spring and
Summer.
Building:
• A generous Lexington resident has donated many games and activities that are either
brand new or open-box. This is greatly appreciated as many of the board games that
are currently here could use replacing.
• Vince from facilities made a cheat sheets on how to connect your laptop to the TV's so it
is easier for all the groups to understand.
• The bulletin board in the caf6 is being put to great use my many groups in town.
Recreation Division:
Programming:
• The ski/snowboard season at Nashoba Valley concluded in recent weeks. The Friday
night program ended on January 31st and the Thursday afternoon program ended on
February 13th
• On Saturday, February 8th, the first Seniors vs. Coaches basketball game took place and
was a huge success! In addition to the game, there was a 3-point contest. This event
served as a fundraiser and a total of approximately$2,000 plus a $500 Staples gift card
were donated. Proceeds will be donated to the Lawrence Boys & Girls Club.
Congratulations to Hayato Tsurumaki, Recreation Supervisor, for coordinating this
event, which will be an annual tradition going forward.
• During the February school vacation week, 122 children participated in the programs
offered, which included a basketball clinic at Fiske, multi-sport clinic at Estabrook, Chess
mini clinic, Wicked Cool for Kids, and Right Brain Curriculum programs at the
Community Center.
• Due to popular demand, we will be piloting a drop-in pickleball program in the coming
weeks. The program will be offered on five Saturday mornings, February 29th-March
28th from 8:30-9:30am and 9:30-10:30am at the Diamond Middle School gym. Pre-
registration began on February 18th to gauge interest. We are happy to report that
enough people have registered so all ten sessions will run as scheduled.
Operations:
• Summer camp registration began on Monday, February loth. On that day,the
department collected approximately$25,000 in revenue.
• In early February, a resident reported that bike jumps and ramps had been constructed
at the Freemont Street play area. Staff did a site visit on Tuesday, February 11th with
Conservation, DPW, and Police. DPW will restore the area once the ground is no longer
frozen and Police is investigating to see if they can determine who the culprits are.
• The kick-off meeting with the Lexington Little League working group was held on
Thursday, February 13th. Staff from DPW and Recreation & Community Programs will
continue to work with representatives from Little League to implement the proposed
improvements prior to the spring season.

updating the Town's Comprehensive Plan, which is ongoing.
