Principal's Report:
• Update on scheduling process
• Currently the schedule drives our middle school students' experience vs. the goal
which should be the students' needs should drive the schedule.
• Staffing for electives is complicated and doesn't meet the scheduling needs for
students' schedules.
• Original committee was made up of staff and parents from both Clarke and
Diamond. This committee met for a year and worked out visions and element
goals for a new schedule.
■ Reduce schedule conflicts; address student executive function needs;
more flexibility and fewer transitions; recess/break; maintain student
choice, WIN, and collaboration time.
• Two staff members from Diamond worked with admin to design some schedule
options. This year, principals from both schools have been working on analyzing
options and model schedules. Is it feasible and does it meet the goals?
• Recently a working model was settled on. Admin has been looking at Program of
Studies, schedule options and rooming needs, staffing, etc. LEA reviewed the
big ideas of this schedule. Department heads and superintendent have been
presented with this proposed schedule.
• Timeline for 2020 has been established.
■ Need to review special ed service needs and scheduling needs.
■ Building sample schedule in Aspen to see if it is feasible.
■ March 2nd Faculty Meeting will be used to look at different iterations of
the model. For example, 30 blocks proposed with different number of
days or different amount of time for each block. A feedback process will
be designed.
■ Goal for March 30 will be ready to present final model which will be
implemented for Fall 2020.
■ Staffing and Program of Studies review and recommendations.
■ Communication to families and students would happen before the end of
this school year.
■ This schedule does not mean we will be locked in for all of the future
years. As we work through it next year, we can determine if there are
changes that will be better for the future.
■ The plan highlights District Strategic Plan Goals: "We All Belong", "Be
Curious and Have Fun", "Embrace Your Revolutionary Spirit".
Staff Report:
• Diamond's DEI Committee spent an entire day planning out work and goals for the
remainder of the year.
• No update is available on the ILP program addition to Diamond.
• Concern with proliferation of headphones.
Member Input:
• Question about redistricting. The committee has been working, but most of the work is
related to the elementary schools.
• Chromebook meeting with parents from January 9 was discussed. About 80 parents
were in attendance with the majority of them against the idea that 6th graders will be
taking their chromebooks home. An advisory committee will be established with parents.
FAQ's will be published before January 28.
