Business Meeting Minutes
September 12,2019
Call to order: 7:45pm
Adjourn: 8:15pm
Introductions
Approval of minutes for 6/7/19 meeting:
• Approved and seconded.
Co-Chair Report:
• Discussion of new website
• Parent Survey:
o Have worked with Dr.Hackett and Ellen Sugita to run another special education survey.
o There is agreement on the questions
o The survey will be sent to all families with a child on an IEP or 504 plan. It will be sent via Central Office in
mid-October.
o The report will be prepared by SEPAC and reported out to the administration in Spring 2020,followed by a
Q&A session to discuss survey results.
o All comments will be scrubbed to ensure anonymity
o All are encouraged to respond as SEPAC is aiming for a high response rate.
• SEPAC 19-20 goals:
o Continue to raise SEPAC/SEPTA awareness through the use of electronic tools and various media
platforms. Implement a robust communication plan.
o Maintain productive and good relationships within the administration to ensure SEPAC is partnered in
program and policy developments affecting kids on an IEP/504.
o Ensure parents in the community know that SEPAC is a resource for information before there is a problem and
connect them to resources online and school liaisons.
o Equity audit-SEPAC will be a key stakeholder in the new equity audit conducted by Dr.Julie Hackett.
o Education for our community,supporting monthly seminars/events to give parents the tools they need along
their path in special education or supporting kids with learning challenges.
Officer reports:
• Treasurer:
o Income is expected to be higher this year.
o Aiming to breakeven on the Resource Fair so planning on charging$50/vendor instead of$30
• Membership:
0 85 members as of 9/10,but many signed up tonight.
School Committee Update:
• Gave brief strategic planning process review and encouraged everyone to watch the video.
0 Kate Colburn read the Mission and Core Values.
0 Community input sessions on the strategic plan will be coming soon.
• Homework Policy Update:
0 Kate Colburn gave a brief overview of the proposed policy.
0 Send feedback by September 15 via survey link or email SC directly.
• SEPAC will be hosting informal gatherings with Scott and Kate this school year—one in the Fall and one in the Spring.
Event Updates:
• Dyslexia Parents Group Back to School Meeting,09/16/19,7:OOpm-8:45pm-Nicole/Jeanne
• Basic Rights Workshop,Understanding the IEP,October 24-Lisa/Kathy
• October Dyslexia Awareness Month Filming,October 22,2019-Nicole/Jeanne
• Battle Green Run,November 3,2019-Team members needed!
• Rachel Kramer Anxiety in Kids with Learning Differences-Nov,date TBC
• Resource Fair,Spring 2020 (looking for volunteers for the fair)
• Looking for an inclusion speaker,so suggestions welcome.
• Also looking for volunteers to assist with bringing in speakers.
Review of June Action Items:
• All items closed with the following exceptions:
o Patricia will add the SC liaisons to the website.
o Mona continues to reach out to the different cultural groups about survey translations to make sure it is
accessible to everyone.
