HomeMy WebLinkAbout2019-09-19-FFLB-min MINUTES FUND FOR LEXINGTON BOARD September 9, 2019 4:30 p.m., Dawes Room, Town Offices Present: Doug Lucente, Chair; Suzie Barry; Norman Cohen, Alan Fields; Edmund Grant; Paul Shupe, Alan Wrigley and Melissa Interess, Director of Human Services; Tony Serio, Assistant Director of Family and Youth Services; Melissa Battite, Director of Recreation and Kim Katzenback, Executive Clerk to the Board of Selectmen. 1. Money Available as of 8/31/19 Income $ 18,737.19 Principal $275,512.48 2. Human Services Human Services Report: June 1, 2019 to August 31, 2019 Melissa Interess, Director reported the following activity for the funds dispersed for the period: Fund for Lexington - $2000; Human Services Emergency Fund - $2,254.60; Gift Card Assistance: food cards - $600 and TJX gift cards - $150; and Lexpress Subsidized Passes —valued at $10,360. Upon a motion duly made and seconded, The Fund for Lexington Board voted 7-0 to approve $2500 for the Human Services Emergency Fund. Ratify Human Services Request—Rent Assistance Upon a motion duly made and seconded, it was voted 7-0 to ratify the vote for $2000 Rent Assistance. 3. Other Issues Recreation Department Report Melissa Battite, Director of Recreation, stated that the scholarship fund which the Board established has been a great success allowing children from low income families to attend Town sponsored summer programs. She provided an overview how the funds were used to date. The Board agreed that the fund balance could be used towards assisting the families for school year recreation programs. Review Fund for Lexington Appeal Letter The Board reviewed a draft of the Annual Appeal Letter and agreed that the appeal letter should be sent in early November. Funding Request Process The Board discussed updating the Fund for Lexington's page on the Town Website to include information regarding the process for funding requests and possibly an application. The Board agreed that it would be a good idea to publish submission deadlines for funding requests on the webpage since the Board meets quarterly. The Board also agreed that the Fund for Lexington webpage should direct requestors to contact the Board of Selectmen's office to coordinate submission of their request. 4. Next Meeting Previously the Board set the December 9, 2019 at 4:30 p.m. for a Fund for Lexington Board meeting. Mr. Lucente requested to amend the time for this meeting. The Board agreed to schedule the meeting to start at 4:00 p.m. 5. Approval of June 10, 2019 Meeting Minutes. On a motion duly made and seconded, the Fund for Lexington Board voted 7-0 to approve the June 10, 2019 meeting minutes.
