HomeMy WebLinkAbout2019-10-09-TCC-min Town Celebrations Committee Minutes of Meeting October 9, 2019 Lexington Community Center Members Present Lorain Marquis, Chair; June Baer, Suzanne Caton, Kim Coburn, Linda Dixon, Mary Hutton, Paul Jenkins, Gresh Lattimore, Julie Miller, Bill Mix, Geetha Padaki, Rita Pandey, Sandy Podgorski, Sue Stering, Members Not Present Glen Bassett, Wei Ding, Karen Gaughan, Cerise Jalelian, Sondra Lucente, Wayne Miller, Dave Taylor, Bob Tracey, Sam Zales Business: • The chair reported that a quorum was present and the meeting was called to order at 7:05 pm. • Minutes from the meeting of September 25, 2019 were approved as corrected. • Lorain reported that as part of the budgeting process with the Select Board, she will submit a proposal to buy 10 walkie-talkies for the TCC. Veteran's Day Breakfast on November 2, 2019: • Mary Hutton reported on her efforts to make the breakfast"green" by using only compostable utensils, plates, and cups. Lorain quoted some prices for compostable utensils that she had obtained and the committee approved her proposal to buy them. • Kim Coburn confirmed that she will buy the orange juice for the breakfast. • Geetha reported that the Indian American Association of Lexington will sponsor the pre- program coffee with a donation and also provide volunteers to man the coffee station. • Sandy asked the committee whether active duty military personnel should be included in the slide show. After considerable discussion, the committee decided that only veterans, not active duty members, should be included in the slide show going forward. • Since the slide show request for photo form states that one photo of the veteran should be submitted, if more than one photo is submitted, it is up to the discretion of the committee whether to include more than one. Sandy will not make any changes to existing slides. • Sandy reported that publicity about the breakfast has been published in the Colonial Times Magazine but not yet in the Lexington Minuteman paper. • Lorain suggested that George Gamota be invited to be the keynote speaker at the breakfast and the committee agreed that he should be invited. Veteran's Day Parade and Program, November 11, 2019: • Cerise has confirmed that the Lexington High School football team and the Youth Commission will participate in the parade. No other sports teams have confirmed. • Linda suggested that the essay writers by asked to march in the parade. • Sue Stering noted that this year, students have been encouraged to participate in the Veteran's Day activities by way of art work, photos, and videos as well as essays. October 28 is the date when the winning essays will be chosen. Patriots' Day 2020 • June Baer reported that a full stakeholders meeting will take place tomorrow, October 10, at 9:30 a.m., where she will present suggestions from the TCC for changes to the Youth Sunrise Parade. Lorain asked TCC members to attend the meeting if possible. • June noted that the sub-committee looking into changes to Patriots Day hopes to increase participation by Town members and to increase the sense of community. The sub- committee has been meeting with various stakeholders individually for several weeks to discuss options and ideas for changes. • June showed the committee the Power Point presentation that will be used at the stakeholders meeting and the committee discussed the contents.
