Business:
• The chair reported that a quorum was present and the meeting was called to order at 7:10
pm.
• Minutes from the meeting of September 11, 2019 were approved.
• Our Select Board representative, Jill Hai, is very active and supportive of our committee.
We will be seeking her guidance on several topics of concern including storage, and our
responsibilities and control over outside events. i.e. WWII and MLK days.
• Lorain asked if anyone need new/replacement name tags, shirts or jackets. If you do,
please let Lorain know so that she can place orders.
Veteran's Day Programs
• Sandy Podgorski stated the Veterans' Day Breakfast event is in excellent shape.
• Publicity is going out. Colonial Times had a nice article about the breakfast in the current
September/October 2019 issue. We are waiting on the Lexington Minute Man Newspaper
to publish a similar article which has been submitted to them.
• Flyers about the breakfast are being distributed.
• There will be 2 sandwich boards placed outside of St. Brigid's Church 2 weeks before the
Veterans' Breakfast event. Karen Gaughan will speak with Wales Copy Center about the
posters for the sandwich boards.
• Lorain Marquis and Linda Dixon will get a speaker for the breakfast.
• The slide show is ready to go. We had 4 new slides added to the presentation. Dave
Tabeling will again be taking pictures for us at the breakfast.
• Gina Rada confirmed that she will be bringing the flags. She also confirmed the tickets
are ready for distribution. She will have tickets available at her office and at Michelson's
Shoes.
• We are confirming that Monsignor Garrity will give the invocation and closing prayers at
the breakfast.
• Sandy is looking at the space at Keilty Hall to determine where would be the best
location to put the TCC banner.
• We will confirm with Geetha if IAL will be able to sponsor/help out with the coffee
service at the breakfast.
• Sandy will confirm that those responsible will be supplying plates, cups and cutlery.
• Sue Stering updated the committee on the Veterans Day program. A meeting was held
with Alethea Roy, head of the art department at Lexington High School. A flyer has gone
out to students about submitting art about Veterans' Day to be displayed with the poster
presentations. Alethea Roy will curate the art submitted and has fabric screens on
pedestals to display the art work. If there is not enough space at Cary Hall, we will also
be able to display the art work at the public library.
• If a student wishes they may submit a video that is 5 minutes or less in length. If there is
one outstanding video submitted, we will play it during our Veterans' Day program.
• Participation is limited to Lexington High School students and home schoolers. We may
expand the program to other students in the future.
• There is limited display space this year at Cary Hall, as the Visitors Center is using part
of the front area and the Ellen Stone room as a temporary location while the new center is
being built.
Patriots' Day
• June Baer presented that the subcommittee has several meetings planned with
stakeholders in the coming week. June and Lorain will be meeting with:
o Ben Moroze on Thursday, September 26, 2019, Chair of the Executive
Committee of the Town Meeting Members Association;
o Justin Aramanti, High School Band Director on Tuesday, October l;
o George Snell, Police Department on Thursday, October 3 and
o Doug Lucente on Friday, October 4. We will be meeting with Doug Lucente on
behalf the Lions' Club and seek his advice on how he sees the Youth Commission
and Board of Selectmen responding.
• We are tentatively scheduling a full stakeholders meeting for October 17, 10:00 a.m.
• Lorain has received an email request from a NJ band of 85 students. They wish to
participate in our parade. She will provide more details as they come in.
• It was suggested that we approach Chris Shaw to see if he would be available to
participate in our parade.
Other Business
• Rita Pandey has agreed to handle the VIP invitation for our events.
The meeting adjourned at 8 p.m.
Respectfully submitted
June Baer, Vice Chair
