differently than in the past, wanted us to wait to
make BIG edits until after the Strategic Plan was set
and put in place
• Angela motioned, Larry second, all in favor.
3.SIP Review 2019-2020 and the LPS • Sara: shared the process of getting to this final
Strategic Plan Strategic Plan--how our input was shared (teachers)
• "Joy of Learning"-was a surprise to see, but really
appreciated.Yes,we want academic... but we want a
joy and love of learning in our students. Was a really
nice to see this move to shift.
• Angela: shared that students also got to go through
the same process.
• Larry:shared that parents also go to participate in
the same exercise.
• Jackie:goal as admin council,everything had been
synthesized by that point, but had to figure out
action steps. What will it look like as we implement
it?
• Jackie:think about how we can bring the core value
alive in the building?
• Jackie is looking to this committee and Leadership
Advisory Council as to how we can implement and
bring these core values to our school.
4. Blue Ribbon Celebration • Following the visit to DC,a school-wide celebration
(local officials,school committee,families)--Dr.
Hackett's request to do this
• At the convention,they will give Jackie/Sara
examples of how to do this celebration
• Jackie is hoping this group will help think about what
to do to celebrate. Examples from Jackie:
o Past school:got every teacher a plaque
o Past school:got every kid a t-shirt with the
design
o Write a grant for a celebration?
What is it that we want for this?
4. New business: • Plans for the year:
Next Meeting- November 7th, 2019 o Strategic Plan and Core Values rollout
o Blue Ribbon Celebrations
9 Emily/Larry: lots of changes on the horizon,
redistricting- lots of parents are worried
o Sara: kids are bringing it up as well
o Jackie: principals are being asked to be at the
next 2 redistricting hearings
• Larry: send out positive messages to all
students/families
• Emily:what do we say to the kids? Are they talking
about it without teachers around?
• Jackie: not sure how parents are reaching out?Lots
of principals have received lots of feedback.Jackie
has only gotten 4-5 emails.
• Sara:a lot of the students don't understand WHY this
is happening(at least at the 5th Grade level). Maybe
it would be a good idea to bulleted email to staff, if
your child is asking about this.
• Angela: perhaps send something to parents as well,a
bulleted list of responses that you can share with
your kids
• Jackie: language will probably come out after the
November meeting. Right now,we are trying to be
consistent, language is consistent,etc..
• Larry: not sure if teachers should be doing crossing
guards.Teachers--that 15-20 minutes,that's
valuable time that they should be using to reaching
out to parents, students, planning,etc.. Emily agrees.
NEXT MONTH'S MEETING AGENDA ITEMS:
o REDISTRICTING(especially after the next
redistricting meeting happens)
o Teacher duties (crossing guard, bus duty)
o Pick-up/Drop-off procedures-still issues,
better, but how to help make this smoother?
