HomeMy WebLinkAbout2296.3 Report of committee on wells for the public schools, May 8, 1854May 8th 1854
The 14th Article in the April Warrant was
"To see if the Town will cause wells to be dug in
the several School Districts, or act in any manner
relating thereto" - Upon this it was "Voted that
the subject be refered to the Selectmen, to report
at the next Town Meeting". Those to whom
the foregoing subject matter was submitted have
given it due consideration and offer this -
Report.
We do not think it advisable
for the Town to incur so large a bill of
expense as would be indispensible in case they should
attempt the digging of a well in each District and
furnish the same with a pump &c necessary for
present use. If the Town, in its munifficent
regard for the comfort of the "little ones" should
furnish each district with a good "watering apparatus"
we think that but very few of them would or
could be kept in working order - so as to remedy
the inconvenience complained of - judging
from the New School Houses and their attendant
buildings - now the distinctive propensity prevails
in some one or more districts - therefore we
think it inexpedient to dig the wells.
