Lexington April 2d 1870 Pursuant to the within warrant I have notified the inhabitants, of the Town of Lexington, therein described to met at the time and place, and for the purposes, within mentioned, by handing an attested copy to the families. Oliver W. Kendall Constable of Lexington 2921 1. Warrant for a Town Meeting, Tuesday, Jany [January], 25th 1870. To Oliver W. Kendall, Constable of Lexington, Greeting, In the name of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts you are hereby required to notify and warn the inhabitants of the town of Lexington qualified by law to vote in town affairs, to assemble at the Town Hall on Tuesday the twenty fifth day of January 1870, at one o'clock P.M. to act on the following Articles, viz: Article I. To choose a Moderator. Article II. To see if the Town will petition the Legislature in aid of the petition of John C. Blasdel and others, to be incorporated for the purpose of building and operating a rail road between Lexington and Lowell. Article III. To see if the Town will present to the General Court its Remonstrance against granting the petition of the Lexington and Arlington Railroad Company, which petition (as published in the Boston Post) is as follows : To the Honorable Legislature of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts; The Lexington and Arlington Railroad Company respectfully represents that the public good, and the interests of said Corporation require the extension of said Railroad, from some point near its present terminus in Cambridge or Arlington, to some point on the Boston and Lowell Railroad in Bedford or Somerville, Said Lexington and 2. Arlington Railroad Company therefore prays that authority for such extension may be granted by the Legislature, By Authority of the Board of Directors of hte Lexington and Arlington Railroad Company. To see if the Town will take any measures to be represented before the Committees of the General Court in the matter of any proposed extension of, or alteration in the line of the Lexington and Arlington Railroad. Article V. To hear the Report of the Committee chosen in November last, to consider the subject of erecting a building for a Town Hall, a Memorial Hall, and a Library Room; and to adopt any measures that may be thought expedient towards the object of erecting and finishing such a building, or procuring land on which to locate the same, Hereof fail not and make return of this Warrant and your doings thereon to the Town Clerk on or before the time of meeting. The Selectmen will be in session at the Town Hall from 12 to 1 o'clock P.M. on the day of meeting for the purpose of placing on the Voting List the names of persons qualified to vote and no names will be inserted after the meeting is opened.
