HomeMy WebLinkAbout2920 Warrant for Town Meeting of March 7, 1870Warrant for a Town meeting Monday - March 7th 1870 To Oliver W. Kendall, Constable of Lexington, Greeting. In the name of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts you are hereby required to notify and warn the inhabitants of the Town of Lexington, qualified by law to vote in Town affairs, to assemble at the Town Hall on Monday the seventh day of March next at one o'clock, P.M. to act on the following Articles, viz: Art. I. To choose a Moderator. Art. II. To choose Town Officers for the ensuing year, including one School Committee man for the term of the three years. Art. III. To adopt measures for the repairing of the Highways the ensuing year, and grant money for the same. Art. IV. To provide support for the Poor the ensuing year. Art. V. To raise money for the support of the Public Schools, including their several grades, or act in any manner relating thereto. Art. VI. To adopt measures for collecting taxes the ensuing year. Art. VII. To see if the Town will authorize and empower the Collector of taxes to use any and all, measures of collecting the taxes, committed to him to collect, which may be lawfully used by the Town Treasurer when acting as Collector. Art VIII. To see if the Town will authorize the Town Treasurer (under the direction of the Selectmen) to borrow such sum or sums of money as may be necessary to defray Town expenses the ensuing year, in anticipation of the taxes of 1870. 3 Art IX. To see if the Town will choose a Board of Auditors to audit the accounts of the year ending March 1st 1870. Art X. To see what action the Town will take relating to a suit brought by Nathaniel Pierce, Peletiah P. Pierce, David Hall, Sidney Lawrence A. Childs, Otis H. Dana, Jonas Gammell, Cornelius Wellington, R.T. Bryant, and T. G. Hovey against the town of Lexington, and certain of its officers or agents. Art XI. To hear the report of the Committee chosen to publish and put on sale the Town History, and act thereon. Art XII. To hear the report of the Committee chosen in November last to examine the proposal to see a portion of the land bought of the heirs of John Mulliken for a cemetery and act thereon. Art XIII. To see if the Town will provide Blackboards for the school houses or act in any manner relating thereto. Art XIV. To hear reports of Committees and act thereon Hereof fail not and make return of this Warrant and your doings thereon to the Town Clerk on or before the time of said meeting.
